Basketball

Varsity – The Varsity Longhorns were defeated by the undefeated Mustangs on Friday night. After the 1st quarter the Longhorns trailed the Mustangs by 3, but a string of turnovers and player foul trouble led the Mustangs to a 22 to 7 run in the second. The Longhorns were led by Olivia West with 5 points. Kendall Bess added to the effort with 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

JV – The Longhorn JV basketball team defeated the Lamar Mustangs on Friday night by score of 27-22. The Longhorns were led by Savannah Brown who had 9 points; Chigozie Ogbonna, Cerenittee Adams, and Shavon Pittman all had 4 points. This brings the JV record to 12-7 with a district record of 6-4 and puts them in a 3-way tie for 1st place.

Freshman – The Freshman girls’ basketball team got back on track against the Lamar Lady Mustangs defeating them by a score of 33-19. The girls outscored Lamar in every quarter. Standouts for the night were Kearah Nails with 11 points and 5 steals and Jessica Conde with 6 points and 2 blocks. The freshman girls are poised to be co-district champs upon completion of their season this Friday vs. Brazosport.
