Varsity – GRHS Varsity Softball jumped out to an early lead against Needville and captured a 17-0 victory on Tuesday at the Ranch. The game was decided quickly as the Longhorns exerted its will early with six runs in the first inning. Ashley Kopps led off with a triple to centerfield, and Reagan Coss got on base with a fielder’s choice. Sara Gonzales, Natasha Cabucio and Jaylin Baldrige all doubled supplying the early offense for George Ranch. Brittney Morse was lethal at the dish, going 2-3. She homered in the first and fourth innings, drilling the ball over the centerfield fence. The Longhorns scored three in the second inning, followed by 8 in the third. Madison McDonald singled, scoring Stephanie Money who tripled to right field.

JV – The JV Longhorns fended off Needville’s late push, and they held on to win 8-7. The team was led by a flawless day at the dish by Lauren Chubon, who went 3-3 against Needville’s pitching. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the second and fourth innings. The top of the first saw Needville take an early lead, 3-0. JV scored two runs in the first inning, and then followed it up with two more in the third. In the first, the Longhorns scored on an RBI double by Chubon, scoring Sydney Scott. The Longhorns didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring four runs in the second inning when they scored on two singles and a two-run triple by Brittainie Cason. One run in the top of the third helped Needville close its deficit to 6-4. Lupita Nowak squashed the attempt at a comeback by getting the last Needville batter to strike out.
