The Varsity Longhorn softball team played 3 games in the Katy Invitational at Cinco Ranch High School on Thursday.

In the first game, Jersey Village didn’t put up much of a fight, as George Ranch cruised to a blowout 6-0 win in six innings. Reagan Coss went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for the Longhorns. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the first and fourth innings. The game was never in doubt after the first, as George Ranch scored one run on an RBI double by Jaylin Baldridge. In the second, George Ranch scored on an RBI single by Natasha Cabucio, bringing home Stephanie Money. The Horns scored two runs in the second inning, and then followed it up with two more in the fifth. Money kept Jersey Village off the scoreboard for all six innings she was on the hill. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate, allowing only three hits while ringing up six strikeouts.

In game two, The Longhorns lost 3-2 in six innings despite outhitting Cinco Ranch nine to seven. Brittney Morse went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for George Ranch. She singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Two runs in the top of the sixth helped the Horns close the deficit to 3-2. A two-run home run by Alyssa Curts fueled the comeback. Natasha Cabucio struck out three and walked zero.

In the final game of the day, Ashley Kopps went 1-2 as the Longhorns took home a 3-2 victory over St. Johns in five innings. In the top of the first, St. Johns grabbed the early lead, 2-0. In the second inning Brittney Morse led off with a double. Stephanie Money singled to center scoring Morse to put the Longhorns on the board. In the 5th, Madison McDonald started the inning with a single and reached second on a sacrifice by Emily Rimes. She moved to third on a hit by Kopps and scored on a passed ball. With time expired, Kopps was on third. Sara Gonzales was at bat with an 0-2 count. Gonzales drilled the ball over the right fielder’s head for a game-winning hit scoring Kopps. Roxy Weinle threw a 3-hitter to walk away with the win.

Our next game is tonight against the Katy Tigers at Katy High School. We complete the tournament on Saturday at Cinco Ranch against Liberty at 9:00am and Cy-Springs at 10:45am.The Longhorns play at the Ranch on Tuesday, February 19 in our first district game against Foster. Plan to come out and cheer us on!
