Varsity – The Longhorns girls’ basketball program participated in tournament play this weekend. The Varsity Longhorns took on tough 5A and 4A competition at the Gander Tip Off.   The Longhorns opened up with 5A Clear Brook. Julia Schwake led the Longhorns with 18 points, and Mikaela Lechtenberger added to the effort with 2 clutch 3-pointers to give her 6 points. In the 4th, Olivia West rallied the Horns with defensive effort of 5 steals, while Schwake knocked down three 3-pointers. Despite their efforts the Longhorns fell to the Wolverines 56-44. The Longhorns then took on 5A Cy Lakes, and 4A Kingwood Park falling to the Panthers 52-47. Alexis White finished with 15 points. Although unable to come up with a win, the girls showed great improvement.

JV – The George Ranch Junior Varsity girls’ basketball team participated in the Dickinson Tournament on Thursday & Friday. The team played Katy on Thursday. They played a hard game but lost 33-41. Shavon Pittman was the high scorer with 10 points followed by six points from both Chidube Ogbonna and Donelle Wande. On Friday, the team played La Porte but fell short with a score of 21-36. Shavon Pittman was high scorer with 7 points and Savannah Brown had 5 points.

Freshman – The Freshman Longhorns took on tough competition in the Dickinson tournament. The girls lined up against Manvel, Dickinson, Katy and Brazosport, coming away with two wins. Highlights of the weekend were Hannah Agner scoring 47 points combined in the 4 games; Jerrica Simons’ defensive effort; and the team’s hustle to come from behind in two games forcing overtime. The Longhorns will take on the Ridge Point Panthers on Tuesday night here at the Ranch. Good luck, ladies!
