The Longhorn varsity softball team continued play in the Clear Lake tournament on Saturday and finished the day with 1 win and 1 loss. In game 1, the Longhorns jumped out to an early lead against Clear Lake and never looked back. The girls coasted to an 8-2 victory against Clear Lake. The Longhorns were sparked by Emily Rimes and Natasha Cabucio, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs. Also supplying the early offense for the Longhorns were Brianna Dixson with an RBI triple, and a two-run double by Alyssa Curts. Alexis Tovar looked sharp on the mound. Clear Lake managed just two hits off of Tovar, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six during her six innings of work. In game 2, the Horns took on a tough, top 10-ranked Barbers Hill. Strong pitching from Barbers Hill and defensive errors caused the Longhorns to drop a 13-0 game to Barbers Hill. Despite Stephanie Money’s 2 for 2 performance at the plate on Saturday, the Longhorns were not able to get a run on the board.

Varsity softball will continue play on Tuesday as they open up the district season at Foster.
