Congratulations to the girls’ Varsity track and field team on its 2014 23-4A District Championship title!
Day 1 Ellie Gonzales broke her own school record and solidified her district Champion title in the girls’ pole vault with a vault of 11’1″. Freshman Chioma Osikpa finished 2nd with 8’6″ and freshman Caitlan Tran finished 5th overall.
In the girls’ shot put, junior Timi Forun added to point totals by placing 5th with her personal best throw.
In the girls’ triple jump, senior Otito Omeludike placed 2nd and tied her own school record with a leap of 36’10”. Freshman Alexis White placed 5th and sophomore LeAndra Houston placed 6th overall.
Sophomore Samantha Chartier tied the school record in the girls’ high jump with a 5’0 jump, which earned her a 3rd place finish. Junior DeAndria Batiste placed 4th and freshman Alexis Thomas placed 5th.
Senior Otito Omeludike broke her own school record in the girls’ long jump and came out on top as the district champion in this event.
Rounding out day one and the girls’ 3200 run was senior Mariana Castaneda with her 5th place finish and junior Elizabeth Hinz with a 6th place overall finish.
Day two of finals the girls were ahead with 58 points and did not look back from there.
Sophomore Linda Etufugh placed 3rd in the girls’ 800 with Alexis Aikens’ 6th place finish to add on.
Freshman Alexis White became a district champion in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles with freshman Abisola Ainfowoshe rounding that event with a 3rd place finish.
Freshman Lisa Egege finished 3rd in the girls 100 meter dash and also ran an excellent anchor leg on the District Champion girls’ 4×200 meter relay. Geordan Yelder, Chidube Ogbonna and Destiny Rutherford were members of this winning relay as well.
Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles and Lily Egege placed 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the girls’ 400 which allowed the Longhorns to start pulling away.
Lisa Egege placed 2nd in the girls’ 200 meters, freshman Chidube Ogbonna finshed 3rd, and DeAndria Batiste finished 5th rounding out the girls’ 200 meters.
Sophomore Alexis Aikens punched her ticket to regionals with her 2nd place finish in the girls’ mile.
The girls sealed the meet with an overall 1st place finish in the girls’ 4×400 relay with Lily Egege, Chigozie Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Kandice Miles.
Again congratulations, girls! You all performed extremely well!
