Congratulations to the girls’ track and field team on their great performances in the Region III-4A Track and field championships in Hunstville. The girls placed 10th out of 28 teams overall, and these individuals contributed to point totals:

Senior Ellie Gonzales finished her amazing season and high school career by placing 6th with a vault of 10’6 in girls’ pole vault.

Otito Omeludike leaped to an amazing school record with a distance of 37 feet 7 inches in the girls’ triple jump. This earned her a 5th place finish overall in the competition.

Freshman Lisa Egege set a season best time and earned a 6th place finish in the girls’ 100 meters. The girls’ 4×200 relay had an impressive weekend with breaking the school record and earning a 6th place overall finish in the event even though they were coming into finals in the last spot. The members – Geordan Yelder, Chidube Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege – did an excellent job.

Rounding out the day was the girls’ 4×400 relay with Destiny Rutherford, Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles, Lisa Egege and alternate Lily Egege earning the first trip to State in this event. The girls were crowned the Region III-4A champions in the 4×400 and shattered the school record by 9 seconds!

The girls’ track and field has had an extraordinary season, and we are incredibly excited about competing at State next week.
