The Varsity softball team dropped game 2 of the area playoffs on Friday night to Ridge Point despite their best efforts in a late 7th inning rally. The combined 4 runs of Kayte Martinez and Natasha Cabucio wasn’t enough to get past the Panthers, as the Longhorns lost 8-7 in seven innings. The top of the first saw Ridge Point take an early lead, 2-0. After a quick strike from the Panthers, the Longhorns responded with two runs in the first. The Longhorns scored on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Money and a sacrifice fly by Emily Rimes. After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the third, the Longhorns faced just a 6-4 deficit. An RBI single by Martinez and an RBI double by Money gave the Longhorns life. But the Horns found themselves down 8-4 in the seventh. A three-run seventh inning helped bring the Longhorns within one. An RBI single by Rimes and a two-run double by Sara Gonzales sparked the rally. The softball team ends its season as Bi-district champs with a season record 23-9-1. Thanks to all of the Longhorn fans, students, and staff for your support throughout the season!
