Varsity – The GRHS girls’ cross country team competed at the South Houston Invite last week. Freshman Theresa McComisky blazed her way to a new school 5K record at 20:12. She placed 15th overall out of 124 competitors. Sophomore Alexis Aikens placed 25th overall and ran a personal best time of 21:07 which replaces her own record she set as the third fastest 5K in school history. Overall, the Longhorns placed 9th out of 17 teams, and contributions were made by junior Parker McCarley who ran a personal best time of 22:41 and placed 60th overall and freshman Jasmine Frechel who ran a personal best time of 22:44 and placed 62nd overall. Rounding out the top finishers for the Longhorns was freshman Katia Davis who placed 70th overall and ran a personal best time of 22:57.

JV – The girls’ JV team competed, and juniors Payton Rouse and Parker McCarley both placed in the top 20 medaling with 15th and 18th finishes. Linda Etufugh, Lauren Nguyen, and Sophia Keast finished 29th, 40th and 62nd out of over 150 competitors to round out the top five places for the Longhorns. Hayley Lindstrom and Brittany Freeland ran extremely well being the 6th and 7th finishers for the JV girls.

The regular season is over, and we wish the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams the best of luck as they prepare for the District Cross Country Championships on Wednesday at Seabourne Park in Rosenberg.
