The girls’ track team traveled to Brazosport on Friday to compete in the Gulf Coast Relays. The Longhorns sealed the win scoring 305.5 points, which is the most scored in a meet from the Longhorns this season. Starting off in field events, Caitlin Tran scored 5th in the girls’ Pole Vault. In High Jump, Samantha Chartier and Alexis Thomas placed 5th and 6th. In Triple Jump, Lisa Egege, Alexis White and Chaya Oliver went 2nd, 3rd and 4th scoring 18 points in that one event together. Geordann Yelder placed 2nd and Alexis Woods placed 4th in girls’ Long Jump. Heading into the running events, the girls swept all 3 relays. Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford, Kearah Nails, Lisa Egege and Geordann Yelder made up the 4×100 relay. Chigozie Ogbonna, Chidube Ogbonna, Kearah Nails and Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford were part of the 4×200 relay. Kandice Miles, Chigozie Ogbonna, Geordann Yelder and Lisa Egege ran the 4×400 relay. In our individual events, Abisola Anifowoshe placed 2nd running a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, and Alexis Thomas placed 6th. In the 100-meter dash, Lisa Egege placed 2nd and Chidube Ogbonna placed 3rd. In the 400, Geordann Yelder placed 4th, Kandice Miles 5th and Destiny Rutherford 6th. In the 300-meter hurdles, Alexis Thomas ran a personal best and placed 2nd overall, and Dominique Jean-Batiste placed 6th overall. Closing out the scores in the individual events were Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford placing 2nd in the girls 200, Chigozie Ogbonna placed 4th and Chidube Ogbonna placed 5th. The girls will compete at the 88th annual Texas Relays this weekend and also the College Park Invite as well.
