The girls Varsity track team placed 3rd overall at the 2017 23-6A District Championships. The Longhorns performed well with their first year in 6A and solidified many qualifying spots to the Area meet this Friday. In field events, Alexis Woods became the only and first 23-6A District champion in girls triple jump. She also placed 3rd in long jump which allowed her to move on to the next round. In the girls distance events, Junior Theresa McComiskey placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run and 3rd in the 3200 meter run moving her on to the next round. Teammate Katia Davis placed 4th in the girls 3200 meter run which sealed her a spot in Area as well. In the hurdles, Senior Abisola Anifowoshe placed 2nd to add to point totals and qualified her in the area meet. Sophomore Nyla Barlow doubled up placing 2nd in both the 400 meter run and the 200 meter running personal records in both qualifying to the area meet. Running next to her was teammate Camille Rutherford who placed 3rd in the 200 meters qualifying to area. Junior Jasmine George ran swiftly in the girls 100 meter run and placed 4th edging out competition to run in the next round. All three relays made it in to area and are ready to take on the next level. The girls 4×100 relay ran a season best and placed 2nd with Jasmine George, Nyla Barlow, Mikayla Wright and Camille Rutherford. In the girls 4×200 meter relay, the girls placed 2nd with Faith White, Alexis Woods, Mikayla Wright and Camille Rutherford. The girls 4×400 relay placed 4th and ran a season best with Munachi Anusiem, Alexandria Franklin, Savannah Creech and Victoria Tennon. Contributing to point totals were Mikayla Wright 6th in the 100, Munachi Anusiem 6th in the 300 meter hurdles, Katia Davis 5th and Brooke Johnson 6th in the girls 1600 meter run.
