Rewards365_Logo-300x121

George Ranch High School, Reading Jr. High School and Polly Ryon Middle School have partnered with Simply Rewards national fundraising company to do a maroon track fundraising campaign during the month of September. This program is designed to raise immediate funds through a 4- week fundraiser called Rewards 365. All Longhorn Nation students are asked to download the Rewards 365 mobile app, create an account using their assigned Group ID number, and then input email addresses of family, friends, and co-workers. If they did not receive one, use Athletics ID#RW1233X2328.

Emails are then sent to your contacts with a personalized request from your child, requesting a donation to the athletics program. Each donor also receives a membership to the Longhorn Nation Rewards website, as well as, $50 added to their Rewards travel account.

Each student has a goal of 30 email addresses to input and can share their donation request via text and social media. Even though this is a campus-wide fundraiser, the athletics department will directly benefit from this program. Please support your student by making sure they have joined a group and by helping them with collecting email addresses. Thank you for your support.

The Longhorns had the best placement of District 24-5A with Lamar placing 18th, and Calhoun placing 16th. Out of 172 competitors, freshman Theresa McComisky ran in veteran fashion placing 21st, running a 2nd best season and overall time of 19:47. Junior Alexis Aikens blazed to another personal and season best as well placing 39th, and junior Parker McCarley finished 65th and made major moves this season running a personal best time of 21:23. Senior Elizabeth Hinz finished her senior season also running a personal best time of 21:26 and placing 67th overall, and to round out the team score, freshman Jasmine Frechel also ran a personal best time of 22:00 and placed 87th. cross_country_oval_sticker

Varsity – Congratulations to the girls’ Varsity Cross Country team on their 5th consecutive district championship! The Longhorns took charge and never looked back as freshman standout Theresa McComisky lead the pack for the team. She took a commanding lead after the turn of her 2nd mile of the 5K and never looked back from there. She took the 1st place overall district title and ran personal best time and annihilated her school record at 19:17. Junior Alexis Aikens placed 3rd overall and played a huge role in helping the ladies win the district title. Junior and newcomer this year Parker McCarley came through with an awesome personal best time and overall 10th place to help with the title as well. Senior Elizabeth Hinz also ran a personal best time of 21:46 and placed 11th overall in the competition as well. Sophomore Grayson Thomas rounded out the team standings and ran a season best time of 21:58 to secure the 13th spot. Freshmen Jasmine Frechel and Katia Davis looked like veterans running out on the course finishing 14th and 16th overall. The girls has had a very rewarding season and are ready to take on the Region 3 Cross Country Championships next Saturday at Atascocita High School.

JV – The Junior Varsity team dominated the district championship meet as they took home the 1st place district title as well. The ladies had an impressive race as junior Payton Rouse claimed the title finishing first for the Longhorns; junior Linda Etufugh was not far behind as she finished 2nd; junior Mara Niggeman finished 3rd, and this is what helped secure the title for the ladies. Sophomore Lauren Nguyen ran a personal best of 14:32 and placed 5th overall, and senior Sophia Keast placed 6th overall running a personal best time as well. Freshman Colette Knoblauch finished 7th overall, and to round up the top ten spots junior Loren Braun finished 8th overall. The ladies took 7 out of the top ten spots which was quite impressive. Hayley Lindstrom, Peyton Mckeithen, Brittany Freeland and Alicia Trevino played a huge part, running personal bests and working extremely hard for their team. JV had a very successful season as they close their season on a very high note. Way to go, girls!

The girls’ Longhorn Cross Country team would like to thank all of our faculty, staff, students and parents for their continuous support throughout the season.
