Girl’s Track Wins Region 3-5A Championship

xctrackThe Girls Track and Field team showed out this past weekend at the Region 3- 5A Championships.The were crowned the Team Champions which is the first Regional girls track title in school history. The ladies edged out Fort Bend Ridge point by 1 point scoring 58 to their 57 points. Starting with the field events we had Alexis Woods who jumped to a personal best and school record in the girls long jump and placed 5th and also 6th in the girls triple jump. Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford placed 4th overall in the girls triple jump as well. Victoria Tennon and Samantha Chartier participated and in girls high jump and Caitlin Tran in the girls Pole Vault. In the running events Theresa McComiskey closed out her season representing distance in the girls 1600 and 3200 meter run. The girls 4 by 200 relay participated with Chidube Ogbonna, Faith White, Franchesica Okokhere and Alexis Woods. In the finals Abisola Anifowoshe helped her team to the title placing 5th overall in the girls 100 meter hurdles. Lisa Egege blazed to a new school record in the girls 200 meter run with a 24.92 and placed 4th overall to help with the point total as well. Jazmyn became the Longhorns first individual state qualifier in the program with a runner up finish in the open 400 meters. The quartet of Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford, Kandice MIles, Chidube Ogbonna and Lisa Egege punched their tickets to state in the girls 4 by 100 relay placing 2nd overall all while breaking the school record again the 4th time this season. Franchesica Okokhere helped her teammates get to finals running a leg in the preliminary round of the relay. The girls showed why we had one of the best mile relays not only in the state but in the country as the Longhorns continued their winning streak of the event for now 3 consecutive years.In the preliminary round Lily Egege contributed as the 4th leg to help her teammates get to the final round. In the finals, Jazmyn Tilford-Rutheford, Kandice Miles, Chidube Ogbonna and Lisa Egege won the event by 5 seconds over Ridge Point to seal the Regional Title and solidifying yet another event to the state meet. The ladies will be representing George Ranch in Austin May 13th.

Girl’s Track at Fort Bend Relays

xctrackThe girls track team placed 3rd overall in the Fort Bend Relays this weekend. Notable Point scorers are of the following athletes: In field events- In triple jump Alexis Woods soared to a 1st place jump with a personal record of 38’11” and a 2nd place. Chidube Ogbonna also placed 4th in the girls long jump. In girls Discus school record holder Chidera Diala placed 4th and Jessica Chukwu threw a season best and placed 5th overall. In girls shot put Senior Silhouette Uzoka shattered the school record throwing 36’6″ placing her #1 in the district. In running events the girls 4 by 1 placed 1st overall with Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford,Kandice Miles, Chidube Ogbonna and Lisa Egege. Payton Rouse placed 6th overall in the 3200 meter run and ran a personal best time of 12:47. In the 100 meter hurdles Abisola Anifowoshe placed 5th overall. Lisa Egege placed 4th in the girls 100 meter dash and in the 400 Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford placed 2nd overall. The girls will wrap up their season at Rockhold Relays in Baytown and Texas Relays Friday and Saturday.

Girl’s Track Won LCISD Relays

The girls Varsity track team won the LCISD relays this past weekend. The ladies performed very well scoring 145 points to the second place team with 84. There were school and personal records broken and national setting performances that gave the Longhorns an edge over the competition. Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford broke the school record in triple jump, long jump and the 400 placing 1st , 3rd and 1st in her respective events. Her record setting triple jump has her ranked number two in Texas in all conferences and number 3 in the nation. Sophomore Alexis Woods contributed to breaking the school record in long jump and triple jump and also placed 2nd and 4th in both events. Sam Chartier broke her own school record of 5 feet and leaped to five feet two inches to claim 4th place points for the Longhorns. Kaitlin Vasquez vaulted to a personal best of nine feet and six inches which earned her a 2nd place finish as well. The Longhorns swept all three relays and won each of them as well. In the girls 4 by 100 relay the quartet of Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Lisa Egege, Chidube Ogbonna and Kandice Miles broke the school record and added 20 points to the total score, The girls 4 by 200 relay ran a season best with Chidube Ogbonna, Kandice Miles, Alexis Woods and Franny Okokhere. The girls 4 by 400 relay ran a season best time with Lily and Lisa Egege, Kandice Miles and Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford. Lisa Egege won the girls 100 meter dash in true fashion with teammate Chidube Ogbonna behind her with a 5th place finish for points. Victoria Tennon and Abisola Anifowoshe both ran a personal best time and placed 5th and 6th in the 400 meters and 100 meter hurdles. Franny Okokhere ran all over the competition placing first overall in the girls 200 meters. The girls Varsity will finish up the week Friday at Klein Relays and over-spring break Pearland Dawson Relays.

Girl’s JV Track at Longhorn Relays

xctrackThe girls JV track team placed 2nd in the Longhorn relays. Point contributions were from the following: In Field events Brittany Hoskins placed 6th in Shot Put. Anayah Anderson won the girls triple jump and placed 2nd in long jump. Sharell Odem placed 5th and Chioma Eke placed 6th in long jump. Josephine Chi placed 3rd and Kenia Washington placed 4th in triple jump. Ann Rabich tied for 2nd in girls High jump. In the running events the girls 4×100 relay and 4×200 relay placed 2nd with Sharrell Odem, Precious Ike, Savannah Creech and Annalisse Thompson. The girls 4×400 won the event with Kenia Washington, Savannah Creech, Josephine Chi and Amor Sheffield. In the 3200 meter run Lauren Nguyen placed 2nd, Hayley Lindstrom placed 4th and Colette Knoblauch placed 5th. Lauren also placed 6th in the 1600 meter run. Destiny Briscoe won the girls 800 with ease running a best time of 2:46. In the hurdles Alexis Cook won the 300 hurdles and placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles. Josephine Chi placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. In the sprints, Kenia Washington placed 1st in the 400 meters and Amor Sheffield placed 5th.The girls 200 Annalisse Thompson and Kenia Washington placed 4th and 5th. Rounding out the sprints was Sharell Odems winning the 100 meters, Precious Ike and Robyn Chukwu placed 5th and 6th respectively.

Girl’s Track at Clear Falls and Terry

xctrackThe girls varsity track team competed in the Clear Falls Invitational Friday February 26th. Out of 17 plus teams the Longhorns finished 2nd overall with placing only in 7 events. Point Scorers were Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford scoring the most points of 18 for her team. She won the girls 400 meter run and placed 2nd overall in the girls triple Jump. Lisa Egege placed third overall in the girls 400 meter run as well. Kandice Miles placed 5th overall in the girls 200 meter run. Alexis Woods placed 4th overall in girls triple Jump. Theresa McComiskey placed 5th overall in the girls 3200 meter run and shattered her previous school record she set last year of 12:21. She ran an outstanding 11:41 which ranks her number two in region 3 5A. The girls 4×100 meter relay won and was close to breaking the school record. Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford, Lisa Egege, Chidube Ogbonna and Kandice Miles ran extremely well. The girls 4×200 placed fifth with Chidube Ogbonna, Abisola Anifowoshe, Alexis Woods and Franny Okokhere. The girls rounded out the meet placing third in the girls 4×400 meter relay with Jazmyn Tilford- Rutherford, Kandice Miles, Lisa Egege and Franny Okokhere.

The girls JV placed second in the Terry Ranger Relays last Thursday. The Following athletes contributed to the total team score. Ann Rabich-High Jump; Josie Chi-triple jump, 100 and 300 meter hurdles; Alexis Cook– Hurdles; Kenia Washington-Triple Jump; Annalisse Thompson-200 meter run; Lauren Nguyen-3200 meter run and 1600 meter run; Hayley Lindstrom– 3200 meter run; Destiny Briscoe-girls 800 meter run; Girls 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay comprised of Sharrell Odems, Savannah Creech, Annalisse Thompson and Harmony Harris; Girls 4×400 meter relay with Kenia Washington, Chioma Eke, Savannah Creech and Amor Sheffield. The girls junior varsity will compete at home in the Longhorn relays this Thursday.

Girl’s Track at Seven Lakes Relays

xctrackThe Girls Varsity Track team placed 7th overall at Seven Lakes Relays this past weekend. It was a great season opener for the whole team as personal records were set and one school record was broken. Contributing to the point totals were the following: Triple Jump-Alexis Woods-2nd; Lisa Egege-5th; Pole Vault-Kaitlin Vasquez placed 5th with a new personal record; Shot Put Silhouette Uzoka placed 5th with a new personal record; Long Jump-Chidube Ogbonna placed 4th. Leading off the points in the running events was Theresa McComiskey with a 6th place finish in the 5000 meter run. Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford placed 5th overall in the girls 400 meter run. Abisola Anifowoshe placed 8th overall in the 100 meter hurdles and broke her old school record of 16.10 by running a good time of 15.47. The girls 4 by 200 meter relay placed 6th overall with Franchesica Okokhere, Alexis Woods, Faith White and Chidube Ogbonna. The girls 4 by 400 meter relay placed 3rd overall with Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford, Kandice Miles, Victoria Tennon and Lisa Egege. The girls will compete this week at the Clear Falls Relays this Friday.

Girl’s JV Track at Mustang Relays

xctrackThe girls JV track team placed second at the Mustang relays hosted by Lamar HS. The following athletes placed top three in their respective events. Lauren Nguyen placed second in the girls 3200 meters. Kenia Washington-1st Triple jump and third in the 400meter. Josie Chi-placed third in triple jump and first in the 300 meter hurdles. Annalisse Thompson placed second in the 200 meters. Chioma Eke placed 2nd in long jump. The girls 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay placed first overall with Sharrell Odems, Harmony Harris, Savannah Creech and Annalisse Thompson. The girls 4×400 meter relay placed second overall with Kenia Washington, Savannah Creech, Chioma Eke and Amor Sheffield. Katelin Money, Stephanie Trevino,Alexis Cook, Brittany Hoskins,and Robyn Chukwu also contributed points towards the team total.

Track Tryouts Next Week

xctrackIf you are interested in trying out for the boys track & field team, Try outs start Nov. 30th. Try outs will be 4pm-5:15pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on the track. Be ready to workout and BE ON TIME!!! Make sure you have a physical on file. If you don’t go see the head athletic trainer (DOC) for further details.
