Rewards365_Logo-300x121

George Ranch High School, Reading Jr. High School and Polly Ryon Middle School have partnered with Simply Rewards national fundraising company to do a maroon track fundraising campaign during the month of September. This program is designed to raise immediate funds through a 4- week fundraiser called Rewards 365. All Longhorn Nation students are asked to download the Rewards 365 mobile app, create an account using their assigned Group ID number, and then input email addresses of family, friends, and co-workers. If they did not receive one, use Athletics ID#RW1233X2328.

Emails are then sent to your contacts with a personalized request from your child, requesting a donation to the athletics program. Each donor also receives a membership to the Longhorn Nation Rewards website, as well as, $50 added to their Rewards travel account.

Each student has a goal of 30 email addresses to input and can share their donation request via text and social media. Even though this is a campus-wide fundraiser, the athletics department will directly benefit from this program. Please support your student by making sure they have joined a group and by helping them with collecting email addresses. Thank you for your support.

Girls’ Track and Field – Region 3 Meet Results

xctrack

The girls’ varsity track and field team competed in the Region III-5A championships this weekend. The ladies qualified 14 ladies to this post-season meet, which is the most the team has ever qualified in the school’s history. Starting off with field events, we had junior Samantha Chartier compete in the girls’ High Jump. She made great attempts at opening height and slightly fell short to progress on to the next height. She competed well and wrapped up her season for this event. In girls Long Jump, senior Geordann Yelder had consistent jumps but fell 2 spots short to qualify to the finals. She performed respectably in the event this season, especially considering she picked it up her senior year. Freshman Kaitlin Vasquez competed in the girls Pole Vault and came out with a vengeance in the opening height. She made several great attempts at her personal record of 8’6″ and fell short of qualifying to the next round. Kaitlin had a progressively great season and finished it out this weekend. In the girls’ triple jump, sophomores Lisa Egege and Alexis White hopped, skipped and jumped their way in prelims, pushing forward vying to make it to the final round. Lisa Egege finished 9th overall out of 16. Alexis White leaped to a personal record of 36 feet 1 inch to score a point towards the ladies total score. The girls’ 4×100 relay placed 10th overall with its 2nd best time this season. Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Kearah Nails and Chigozie Ogbonna sprinted towards the finish, running 48.53. Sophomores Alexis Thomas and Abisola Anifowoshe finished off a school record-breaking season in the girls’ 100m hurdles.  Current school record holder Abisola finished 13th and Alexis finished 11th overall, respectively. Alexis Thomas also qualified in the 300m hurdles and finished 10th as well, running her 2nd best time of the season at 48.83.  Sophomore Lisa Egege sprinted to a 5th place finish in the girls’ 100m dash, bettering her results by one place from her freshman year at the 2014 regional competition. This also earned points towards the team title. Seniors Geordann Yelder and Destiny Rutherford competed in the girls’ 200m dash, and Destiny finished 11th overall and Geordann finished 8th overall. Freshman Theresa McComiskey competed in the girls’ mile and placed 12th overall. She had a record-setting season breaking the school records in this event and also the 3200m run. The 400m school record holder Chigozie Ogbonna, blazed her way to a 4th place finish running a season best of 57.35 and also earned 4 points towards the team title. The girls’ 4x200m relay qualified this relay to the State meet for the first time ever and set the school record again for the 3rd time this season! Geordann Yelder, Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege literally fought to the finish beating out Fort Bend Bush to secure the second place State qualifying spot. This was a huge deal considering the ladies were ranked 4th coming in to the regional meet. These ladies ran their hearts out on this relay and did so with class. Kandice Miles was a part of this relay as well, as she helped the ladies earn their way to finals. The last event of the evening was the 19th Nationally ranked 4x400m relay, and the ladies showed how and why they are still number one in Region III-5A and now number two in 5A. The record-setting relay won this same event under our old 4A conference. The quartet of Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Chigoze Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege did it again and broke their own school record by 3 seconds, running 3:48.05. Kandice Miles also contributed to this relay in prelims, running the 3rd leg to help the ladies progress. It was another fight to the finish as Lisa Egege beat out Fort Bend Marshall’s last leg as if it was a replay of the 2014 regional meet for first place. This qualified another relay to the 5A state meet, which is the most the girls have sent in school history. Our girls placed third overall at the Region III-5A meet, which is the highest place ever scored at this post-season meet. What an amazing season thus far, and we look forward to making more noise at the 5A state meet in two weeks in Austin. Great job, ladies!!!

Girls’ Track and Field – District Meet Results

xctrack

Congratulations to the girls’ varsity track team on their 2015 District 24-5A Championship team title! The girls started off as a force to be reckoned with by pulling away from competition from the beginning and never looked back.

The girls’ 4×100 relay shattered the previous school record of 49.20 and became the district champions with Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Kearah Nails and Chigozie Ogbonna running a 48.28.

In the girls’ 800m, Lily Egege placed 4th overall and ran a personal best of 2:30.76.

Sophomore Abisola Anifowoshe became the district champion in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles and broke the school record last set in 2012 by Diamond Hosey. Her time was 16.18 seconds, and not too far behind was district runner-up and teammate Alexis Thomas running a personal best and qualifying for the regional meet as well. Freshman Briana Franklin placed 5th overall contributing to the Longhorns’ point total.

In the girls’ 100m dash, Lisa Egege placed second with Chidube Ogbonna placing 3rd, running a personal best of 12.57. Kearah Nails also ran a season best placing 5th overall to help the Longhorns extend their lead.

The girls ran a great 4×2 meter relay time and won the district title for that state ranked relay. Destiny Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Geordann Yelder and Lisa Egege made it look easy, cruising to a time of 1:41.78 and beating out 2nd place Foster by 5 seconds.

In the girls’ 400m, it was a battle for the first place spot, but senior Chigozie Ogbonna placed 2nd overall just barely edging out teammate Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford. Both ladies ran very respectable times, and Ogbonna broke the school record (running 57.05) that was set by Tilford-Rutherford earlier this season with a 57.20. Kandice Miles finished out the 400 meters running 62.90 and earning 4th place points for the team.

In the girls’ 300 meter hurdles, sophomore Alexis Thomas never looked back in her quest towards the district championship, passing up the competition and making it look easy. She ran a personal best of 47.46 and will be going into regionals looking great. Sophomore Dominique Jean-Batiste ran a personal best and finished 5th, and freshman Briana Franklin contributed as well with her 6th place overall finish.

In the girls 200 meters, seniors Geordann Yelder and Destiny Rutherford put on a showstopper with their 1 and 2 easy finishes qualifying both athletes to the regional III competition. They looked amazing out there and were running with ease towards the finish. Kandice Miles rounded out the last point placing with her 6th place finish.

The girls’ 1600 was a fight to the finish with freshman Tess McComiskey beating out Foster for the 2nd place spot. This also allowed her to break the school record set in 2012 by Shelby Tondre and earned her a trip to the regional meet.

To solidify the win, the girls’ 4×4 relay has been such a strong threshold through this season winning a total of 7 out of the 8 meets they have competed with this relay. The girls still hold the number one time in Region III-5A and will go into regionals as the district champions. Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, seniors Chigozie Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Geordann Yelder ran 3:55.25 and made this night a special one with that win.

Congratulations to the seniors on their humongous district title, and to Chigozie Ogbonna and Geordann Yelder, you ladies have been the ones to start this program, running on varsity as freshmen. This is a huge thank you to you both and to Destiny Rutherford for such an excellent display of class and competition for the past 4 years of your high school careers. Hats off to you, seniors!!
