Tennis Beats Alief Taylor

tennis_ball_128The varsity longhorn tennis team took on Alief Taylor Monday night. The team walked away with an 18-1 victory which brings their district record to 4-1. Monday night was also senior night. We would like to take a moment to thank our 11 seniors for all they have done for the program over the past 4 years. Thank you; Hannah Rosenbaum, Corrine Saha, Megan Foster, Liz Cervantes, Sara Grace, Aisha Sheikh, Josh Joe, Will Blanco, An Nguyen, Jeremy Harvey, and An Nguyen.

Tennis Sweeps Alief Hastings

tennis_ball_128The varsity tennis team defeated Hasting on Tuesday night with a score of 19-0.  The team did not drop a single set.  The win was a team effort by all and raised our district standing to 2nd place.

Tennis Beats Brazoswood

tennis_ball_128Congratulations to the GRHS varsity tennis team. They defeated Brazoswood HS with a score of 15-4. Matches of the evening go to Corrine Saha and Thomas Mandell for not giving up and pulling out wins for the team. The varsity boys will take on Strake Jesuit at GR on Friday. Go Longhorns!

Tennis vs. Pearland Dawson

tennis_ball_128The GRHS Varsity Longhorn Tennis Team fell 9-10 to Pearland Dawson last night. After winning all 3 lines of girls doubles, the Longhorns fought hard and it all came down to one match. Matches of the evening go to Chloe Redies, Jeremy Harvey, Joshua Joe, Cassie Chen, and Hannah Rosenbaum for fighting hard in 3 – set matches. The Varsity longhorns will be back in action next week at Brazoswood. The JV team will travel to Dawson on Thursday. Good luck to all!

Tennis Beat Pearland

tennis_ball_128Congratulations to the Varsity Longhorn tennis team. They opened district play against Pearland. After sweeping all the double matches, the Longhorns continued to fight hard and took 11 of the 12 singles matches for an 18-1 win. Matches of the evening goes to Jonathon Tan and Julia White in mixed doubles and Nick Luu in singles for fighting back after dropping the first set to win their respective matches. Teammates of the evening goes to Sara Grace and Megan Foster. The Longhorns will take on Dawson at George Ranch next week on Tuesday.  Congratulations to the JV Tennis team on their first district win over Pearland High School. The Longhorns finished up with a 13-6 victory to put their first “W” in the books for the fall season! Way to go Longhorns!

Tennis at Regional Tourney

tennisThe regional varsity tennis tournament took place this past Wednesday and Thursday. Congratulations to Joey Ballone and Aisha Sheikh for finishing as regional quarter finalists. Congratulations also to Rachel Dziuk and Alessandra Jara for earning regional medals and advancing to the state tournament for the second year in a row. The state tennis tournament will take place on May 16th and 17th at A&M. Good luck ladies!

JV Tennis at District Tourney

tennisThe JV Tennis team played their districts tournament at Angleton High School and came home with an impressive medal count.  In the freshman draw Heather Wunsch and Lauren Thompson took 1st in girls doubles; Brisa Gonzalez and Lauren Caples took 2nd in girls doubles; Julia White and Jonathan Tan placed 1st in mixed; Ryan Grace took 1st in boys singles; Ben Lueng and Dylan Le placed 3rd in boys doubles; Rachel Holly took 2nd in girls singles; Nick Heard and Ethan Chau placed 1st in boys doubles.  In the JV draw Nick Chin and Paulina Casados placed 2nd in mixed; Grace Nguyen and Ben Miller placed 1st in mixed; Connor Morton and Will Alexander took 3rd in boys doubles; Sarah Moran placed 2nd in girls singles; Nick Luu placed 3rd in boys singles.  We certainly won at the Ranch! What a great way to end the season.

JV/Freshman Tennis at Cy-Fair Tourney

tennisThe JV Tennis team traveled to Cy Fair Tuesday to compete in their annual JV/Freshman Tournament and came home victorious. Olivia Ledgerwood and Daniel Pate took home a medal in mixed doubles, Heather Wunsch and Lauren Thompson took a 3rd place medal in in girls doubles, Brisa Gonzales and Lauren Caples took 1st place in girls doubles, Sarah Moran took a medal in girls singles, and Ryan Grace won 1st place in boys singles. What a great way to end tournament season! On April 5th, the JV longhorns will play their final district tournament of the season.

Tennis at Spring Branch Tourney

tennisOver the weekend the Varsity tennis team competed in the Spring Branch annual tournament. The Longhorns came home with medal in mixed doubles, which was earned by Joey Ballone and Aisha Sheikh, as well as medals in girls doubles earn by Ashley Cao and Chrysantha Davis for winning the consolation draw. Other highlights from the tournament are as follows; ~8th place in Girls Doubles; Alessandra Jara & Rachel Dziuk ~7th place in Boys Singles – Joshua Joe ~5th place in Girls Singles – Hannah Rosenbaum ~4th place in boys doubles – Trevor Sellers & Jonathon Dennis
