Varsity Volleyball Beat FB Austin

volleyball_128The Longhorn volleyball teams played host to Fort Bend Austin Friday night. The freshman team feel to Austin with scores of 23-25, 27-25, and 20-25. The JV came up short with scores of 27-25, 23-25, and 15-25. The varsity squad took on a tough Austin Bulldog squad and came up with the win with scores of 25- 20, 20-25, 18-25, 25-23, and 17-15. Kill leaders were Valerie Valerian with 23, Audrey Tuttle with 16, and Kennedy Prince with 11. Set assist leaders were Alaina Lanik with 24, and Mady Rathmel with 21. Block leaders were Cassie Coker with 6, Kennedy Prince with 4, Audrey Tuttle with 3, and Stacy Chukwujekwu with 3. Dig leaders were Valerie Valerian with 27, Audrey Tuttle with 24, Alaina Lanik with 18, and Brianna Franklin with 11. Ace leaders were Valerie Valerian with 3, Brianna Franklin with 2, Mady Rathmel with 2, and Cheyenne Horst with 2. Serve receive leaders were Audrey Tuttle with 26, Valerie Valerian with 24, and Brianna Franklin with 19.

JV & Varsity Volleyball Beat Mayde Creek

volleyball_128The Longhorn Varsity volleyball team traveled to Mayde Creek High School and came away with 2 wins. The freshman team fell to Mayde Creek with scores of 21-25 and 20-25. The JV team beat Mayde Creek in 2 sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-14. The varsity team controlled the match from start to finish and defeated the Rams with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-18. Kill leaders were Valerie Valerian with 12 and Audrey Tuttle with 11. Set assist leaders were Olivia Gray with 12 and Alaina Lanik with 11. Block leaders were Kennedy Prince with 5, Cassie Coker with 5, and Audrey Tuttle with 4. Dig leaders were Valerie Valerian with 11, Brianna Franklin with 10, and Audrey Tuttle with 8. Serve receive leaders were Valerie Valerian with 20 and Brianna Franklin with 11. Ace leaders were Mady Rathmell with 2 and Alaina Lanik with 2. The Longhorn varsity squad has improved their record to 20-5.

GRHS Volleyball is State Bound

volleyballCongratulations to the Region 3 5-A Champions and STATE BOUND Longhorn Volleyball team!! They stamped their ticket to Garland on Saturday, when the competed in an epic back and forth battle with the Falcons of Barbers Hill. The Longhorns won the Regional final championship with scores of 22-25,25-20, 18- 25, 25-21 and 15-9. Kill leaders for the Longhorns were Valerie Valerian with 28, Allyson Dernehl with 22, Ambrielle Logan with 14 and Mattie Ward with 11. Block leaders were Mattie Ward, Ambrielle Logan and Kennedy Prince all with 5 blocks each. Dig leaders were Valerie Valerian with 26 and Audrey Tuttle with 22 and Abbey Messick providing 57 set assist. The Longhorns with travel to the STATE TOURNAMENT and take on Lucas Lovejoy in the semi final match up on Friday at 12 pm at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX!   And Congratulations to Valerie Valerian on winning VYPE Volleyball player of the year!

Volleyball Advances to Regional Semifinals

volleyballThe Longhorn volleyball team traveled to the University of Houston to take on the Santa Fe Lady Indians in the UIL Regional III Quarterfinals match. The Longhorns came back victorious as they defeated a very tough Santa Fe squad with scores of 25-14, 27-25, 21-25, and 25-22. Kill leaders were Allyson Dernehl with 18 kills, Valerie Valerian with 14 kills, Mattie Ward with 10 kills, and Ambrielle Logan with 10 kills. Serve Ace leader was Valerie Valerian with 5 serve aces. Block leader was Ambrielle Logan with 7 blocks. Dig leaders were Valerie Valerian with 20 digs and Audrey Tuttle with 16 digs. Set assist leader was Abbey Messick with 39 set assists. Serve receive leader was Audrey Tuttle with 37 serve receive passes. Player of the match was #14 Allyson Dernehl with 18 kills, 1 serve ace, 8 digs, and 8 serve receive passes. The Longhorns will advance to the Regional Semifinals tonight as they take on Willis at Don Coleman Coliseum at 5:00 pm. Thank you to all the fans who came out and supported us…you are amazing!!

volleyballThe Longhorn Volleyball team traveled to Wheeler Field House to take on Fort Bend Bush in the 2015 Bi-District Playoffs. The Longhorns swept Bush in 3 straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-14. Kill leader was Valerie Valerian with 17 kills. Set assist leaders were Abbey Messick with 15 and Olivia Gray with 11. Dig leaders were Audrey Tuttle with 17 and Valerie Valerian with 12. Block leaders were Kennedy Prince with 3 and Stacy Chukwujekwu with 3. Serve ace leader was Olivia Gray with 3. Serve receive leaders were Valerie Valerian with 14 and Audrey Tuttle with 13. The Player of the Match was #7 Stacy Chukwujekwu with 6 kills, 3 blocks, and 5 digs. The Longhorns will face Kingwood Park for the Area Championship at Cy Springs High School tonight at 6:00 pm.

GRHS Volleyball Teams Capture District Titles

volleyballCongratulations to the Longhorn Volleyball program for capturing all 3 district championship titles. Last night the Longhorns traveled to Foster High School to take on the Lady Falcons. The Freshman team defeated the Lady Falcons with scores of 25-15, 18-25, and 25-20. The Freshman team compiled an impressive season record of 28-3 and an undefeated district championship record of 10-0.

The JV team defeated Foster with scores of 25-21 and 25-18. The JV ended the season with just as impressive of a season with a 24-3 over-all record and an undefeated district championship record of 10-0.

The Varsity finished off the district sweep as they took down the Foster Lady Falcons in 3 straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-18. Kill leaders were Valerie Valerian with 14, Allyson Dernehl with 12, and Kennedy Prince with 12. Block leaders were Mattie Ward with 7 and Valerie Valerian with 5. Dig leaders were Audrey Tuttle with 16 and Valerie Valerian with 12. Set assist leader was Abbey Messick with 31. Serve ace leader was Abbey Messick with 4 serve aces. Player of the Match was #1 Valerie Valerian with 14 kills, 1 serve ace, 5 blocks, 12 digs, 1 set assist, and 17 serve receive passes. The Longhorns complete their regular season with an impressive 36-7 over-all record, 26 game win streak, and 10-0 in district to win the district title. The Longhorns will head into the 2015 UIL State Playoffs as the #1 seed for District 24-5A. Please stay tuned for playoff information.

The Varsity team defeated the Lady Rangers with scores of 25-7, 25-13, and 25-18. Kill leaders were Ainsley Mandell with 12 and Valerie Valerian with 10. Set assist leader was Abbey Messick with 38 assists. Serve ace leader was Abbey Messick with 7. Block leaders were Mattie Ward with 4, Allyson Dernehl with 4, and Ambrielle Logan with 4. Dig leader was Allyson Dernehl with 18 digs. Player of the Match was #8 Abbey Messick with 3 kills, 7 serve aces, 10 digs, and 38 set assists. The Longhorns will close district play at Foster High School tomorrow night. Game times are Freshman and JV at 5:00 followed by varsity at 6:00.

The freshman took the Lady Mustangs down with scores of 25-9 and 25-18. The JV team beat Lamar with scores of 25-5 and 25-19. The Longhorn varsity volleyball team remains unbeaten in district play with a record of 6-0 as they take down the Lamar Lady Mustangs in three straight sets with scores of 25-10, 25-5, and 25-19. Kill leaders for the Longhorns were Stacy Chukwujekwu with 7, Ambrielle Logan with 6, Allyson Dernehl with 6, and Kennedy Prince with 6. Set assist leaders were Abbey Messick with 16 and Sam Garza with 8. Block leaders were Ambrielle Logan with 7, Mattie Ward with 3, Ainsley Mandell with 3, Stacy Chukwujekwu with 3, and Allyson Dernehl with 3. The JV team also took down the Falcons with scores of 25-19 and 25-22. Both teams remain undefeated in district play with a record of 5-0. The Longhorn Varsity Volleyball team defeated cross town rival Foster in 3 straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19. With the win, they improve their overall record to 31-7 and 5-0 in district play. The Longhorns captured their 21st win in a row. Kill leaders for the Longhorns were Valerie Valerian with 11, Kennedy Prince with 9, and Allyson Dernehl with 7. volleyballThe Longhorn volleyball team traveled to Terry High School Tuesday night and came home with 3 wins. The Freshman team beat Terry with scores of 25-17 and 25- 14. The JV team followed suit taking the Lady Rangers down with scores of 25- 15 and 25-20. The Varsity team beat Terry with scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25- 13.. With the win, their season record is now 30-7, and their district record is 4- 0. With the win over the Lady Rangers, the Longhorns improve their winning streak to 20.
