Attention all young ladies not enrolled in athletics for the 2017-2018 school year. Baseball Playoffs vs. La Porte

The Varsity Baseball team ended their season this past weekend with a 28-5 record as they lost a tough series against La Porte. The Longhorns were victorious 5-1 in 10 innings on Thursday with the help of a Brad Armstrong grand slam in the top of the 10th. The Longhorns fell 4-9 on Friday despite a 3 run homer by Jake Zatopek. Saturday saw the Longhorns battle til the end of 10 innings again but came up short as the Bulldogs won 7-6. It was a successful season with many proud moments and honors. Thank you to the players, parents, fans, administration, and faculty for your support and dedication. A special thanks to the Seniors who put in countless hours of hard work and dedication over their 4 years to help continue the success of Longhorn Baseball. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Boys Track Wins Region 3-6A Championship

The Longhorn Varsity Boys Track team competed at the Region 3-6A Championships this past weekend and the Longhorns took the team title. This is the first regional championship for the boys track team in school history. To start of the amazing win, in pole Vault Robert Platt ties his personal best and vaulted at 15ft 6in vault to win pole vault. Jacob Adair finished 4th with a vault of 15ft. The boys 4x100m relay team of Cristian Velez, Jayson Baldridge, Sebastian Arellano and Champion Allison took the gold. In the 400m Dash Champion Allion won by a big margin to take home the gold. in the 300 hurdles, Jayson Baldridge made a big statement by running the second fastest time in the country and winning with a time of 36.08 seconds!! The longhorns 4x400m relay stole the show by winning the relay. Those members where Jayson Baldridge, Avery Veiseh, Faybian Marks and Champion Allison. The longhorns will be headed to Austin to compete at the UIL State Track meet May 13th. Come support the Longhorns as they make a run for the Team State Championship.

Baseball Beats Alief Elsik

The Varsity baseball team bounced back from 2 losses last week by defeating Elsik 9-0 on Tuesday night. Josh Lapierre took the mound and had 13 strikeouts while helping himself with 2 singles and an RBI. Jake Zatopek also had multiple hits including a double and homerun for 4 RBI’s will Dylan Rock contributing a double and 2 RBI’s. Colson Kostelnik came in to close out the 7th with 3 strikeouts. The 24-3 (9-2 District) Longhorns will host Alief Taylor this Friday as we honor the Senior players and their parents.

Girls Track at Area 23-24 6A Championships

The girls varsity track team finished 7th our of 15 teams at the Area 23-24 6A championships. In field events. Junior Alexis Woods jumped to two season bests in girls long jump and triple jump. Alexis placed 3rd in triple jump with a jump of 37′ 6 and 4th in long jump with 17′ 9. This qualified her to this weeks Region 3-6A Championships at Challenger Stadium. Also qualifying to the regional meet was sophomore Nyla Barlow placing 2nd in the 400 meters and running a personal best of 57.10. The girls 4×200 meter relay placed 3rd overall and ran their 2nd best time of the season with Junior Jazmine George, Freshman Alexandria Franklin, Freshman Mikayala Wright and Freshman Camille Rutherford. This put them in to the regional meet as well. Senior Abisola Anifowoshe placed 4th overall earning a spot in the Region meet as well. Notable point earners for the longhorns go to Theresa McComiskey placing 5th in the girls 3200 meter and 6th in the 1600 meter run. Katia Davis placed 6th overall in the 3200 meter run. The girls 4×100 meter relay placed 5th running their season best with Mikayla Wright, Jazmine George, Nyla Barlow and Camille Rutherford. The girls 4×400 meter relay placed 7th overall running a season best time with Savannah Creech, Victoria Tennon, Alexandria Franklin and Munachi Anusiem.

Boys Track at Area Track Meet

The Longhorns boys track team finished 2nd over all by one point at the Area track meet. There were many great performances by the team. To start the meet off by scoring big points was Robert Platt and Jacob Adair by going first and Second in pole vault. Robert Platt vaulted a personal best to win with a vault of 15ft 6in. In the High Jump JaMarkus Taylor wins high jump with the new school record, a jump of 6ft 4in. Joshua Okoye finished 6th place with a jump of 5ft’10in In the 4x100m relay, the Longhorns win with a 41.13. The relay members were: Cristian Velez, Jayson Baldridge, Sebastian Arellano and Champion Allison. In the 400m dash, Champion Allison won convincingly with a time of 46.54. In the 4x200m relay the relay punched their ticket to Region 3 6A championships by finishing 3rd. Those Members were Sebastian Arellano, Thomas Cook, Avery Veiseh, and Stephan Hegger-Bregger, in the 300h Jayson Baldridge cruised to another victory with a time of 37.62. Colton Pounders finished 5th with a time 39.85. to cap out the night the longhorn run a new school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:12. 76. Those members were Jayson Baldridge, Avery Vesieh, Faybian Marks and Champion Allison. The longhorns will be competing at the Region III 6A Championship track meet this coming weekend at Charger Stadium in League city. Come out and support the longhorns as they take on 6A’s best at the Regional Track meet.
