Girls’ Cross Country – Regional Meet Results

The girls’ varsity Cross Country team finished its season at the Region III-4A Championships this past weekend. The girls moved up two spots from last year improving their overall finish to 12th out of 24 total teams in the competition. Senior Heather Haig ran her personal and season best time of 20:23 to earn 19th place for the team. Freshman Grayson Thomas finished 49th overall, sophomore Alexis Aikens 59th, junior Elizabeth Hinz 73rd, sophomore Sydney Heikkila 87th, senior Mariana Castaneda 88th and junior Carolina Perez 119th. There were a total of 176 competitors, and the girls took on the competition to enhance their performance to accomplish their goals.  I am extremely proud of the girls and the work they put in from the summer time to right now.  We would like to thank George Ranch High School for the support, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

Girls Cross Country – Nike South Invitational Results

The Lady Longhorn Varsity Cross Country team competed at the 2013 Nike South Invitational this past weekend. We had 2 athletes qualify for the Elite 5K. Senior Heather Haig placed 105th out of 170 participants. Freshman Grayson Thomas finished 11th. Also, we had our Varsity girls compete in the Varsity Girls 5k, and junior Elizabeth Hinz finshed 110th, sophomore Sydney Heikkila finished 129th, senior Mariana Castaneda finished 138th, and junior Carolina Perez finished 160th. This meet had some of the best in the state, region and country. The girls did well amongst some of the best. Way to go, ladies!

Girls Varsity Cross Country – Cy Woods Invitational Results

The girls’ varsity cross country team competed in the Cy-Woods Invitational this past Saturday. They had an overall 15th place out of 20 teams making this a very competitive meet for the Lady Longhorns once again. With 148 girls competing, senior Heather Haig led the pack finishing 33rd. Freshman Grayson Thomas finished 37th, junior Elizabeth Hinz finished 80th overall, sophomore Sydney Heikkila finished 99th overall, and junior Carolina Perez helped with the team standings finishing 108th overall.

Girls Cross Country – Andy Wells Invitational Results

Varsity – The girls’ Varsity cross country team competed at The Andy Wells Invitational this past Saturday. Despite the discouraging rain, the Lady Longhorns finished 8th out of 17th teams overall running a 4K for this particular meet. There were 133 girls that competed as well. Top runners for Varsity were senior Heather Haig (24th place), freshman Grayson Thomas (25th place), junior Elizabeth Hinz (47th place), sophomore Sydney Heikkila (68th place), and senior Mariana Castaneda (89th place).

JV – The girls’ JV cross country team also competed at The Andy Wells Invitational this past Saturday. The Lady Longhorns finished 9th out of 14 teams. There were 143 girls who competed in this division. Top runners for JV were freshman Elena Gehle (20th place), freshman Sarah Knizner (32th place), sophomore Marissa Vrba (49th place), freshman Kelly Davila (67th place) and freshman Haley Lindstrom (75th place).

Girls Cross Country Meet Results

Varsity – The Lady Longhorn Varsity Cross Country team competed at the Region III preview this past weekend. It was a competitive meet, and amongst the 202 girls that participated, we had Freshman Grayson Thomas finish 42nd with a PR of 20:45, Senior Heather Haig finished 44th with a PR of 20:47, Junior Elizabeth Hinz finished 91st with a PR of 22:14, Sophomore Sydney Heikkila finshed 139th with a time of 23:44 and Senior Mariana Castaneda finshed 143rd with a PR of 23:50.

JV – Congratulations to the Lady Longhorn JV Cross Country team. They finshed 3rd overall in the girls’ Silver 2 Mile Division out of 10 teams. Top runners were Carolina Perez with an 11th place finish, Sophia Keast with an 16th place finish, Sarah Knizner with a 19th place finish, Elena Gehle with a 20th place finish and Lauren Appel with a 21st place finish. Other contributers were Emily Tehrani, Marissa Vrba, Kelly Davila and Hayley Lindstrom.

Ladies Cross Country – San Jacinto Monument Results

The Lady Longhorn’s Cross Country team competed this past Saturday at the San Jacinto Battle Monument in La Porte, TX. The Lady Longhorns finished 7th out of the 13 teams competing in the top Gold Division 5K. There were 96 girls in the overall competition. Top runners for the Lady Longhorns was Sophomore Alexis Aikens finishing 22nd, Freshman Grayson Thomas finishing 25th, Senior Heather Haig finishing 42nd, Junior Elizabeth Hinz finishing 56th and Sydney Heikkila finishing 61st. Mariana Castaneda also contributed to the team finish.

Cross Country – Friday Night Lights Results

Girls Cross Country – The Lady Longhorn Varsity Cross Country team competed in the Friday Night Lights meet on August 30 in The Woodlands. The Lady Longhorns finished 9th out of 23 teams in the Varsity B competition. There were 190 competitors. Top runners for the girls’ Varsity included senior Heather Haig who finished 22nd, freshman Grayson Thomas who finished 27th, sophomore Alexis Aikens who finished 43rd, junior Elizabeth Hinz who finished 85th, and sophomore Sydney Heikkila who finished 106th. Senior Mariana Castaneda and Freshman Lauren Ingrassia assisted with the team total, placing 115th and 124th.

Our JV Girls Cross Country Team placed 20th out of 27 teams at the Friday Night Lights meet in the Woodlands as well. Personal records were set as the ladies worked hard this first meet. Brooke Shipley, Elena Gehlie, Sarah Knizner, Lauren Appel, Taylor Dowden, Sophia Keast, Kelly Davila, Emily Tehrnai and Marissa Vrba all contributed to the team total.

Boys Cross Country – The boys cross country team also kicked off their season at Friday Night Lights. They ran well, beating out several of the top-ranked teams in the state. Jordan Janer and Chandler Heikkila led the way, finishing 5th and 14th overall, with strong performances from Alex Sims, Jullian Muffaro, Jacob Nava, and Jacob Triesch. The team finished sixth overall in the 4A/5A division. The Varsity B team also ran well together, finishing 6th in their race. The freshman team finished 8th overall.
