Boys’ Track and Field – College Park Invite Results

The Varsity boys competed at the College Park track meet, and Michael Bottego broke the school record in the shot put by throwing 48ft 6in and placing 5th overall out of 47 throwers. Bottego also threw a personal best in the discus with 138ft 3in and finished 8th overall out of 42 throwers. Kerin Martin finished 7th in the high jump with a jump of 6ft. Alex Sims finished 12th in the 3200-meter run. Great job, Longhorns!!

Boys’ Track and Field – Gulf Coast Relays Results

The boys’ track team traveled to Brazosport on Friday to compete in the Gulf Coast Relays. The Longhorns sealed the win scoring 325.5 points, which is the most points scored in a meet by the Longhorns this season. Starting off in field events, Tylen Guidry won the Triple Jump with a leap of 44ft 9in, LeRoy Franklin placed 4th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 41ft 7in. Guidry also won the long jump with a leap of 20ft 11.5in, and second place was Xavian Marks with a leap of 20ft 11in. In the High Jump, Torin Marks took second place with a school record jump of 6ft 2in. Third place was Kerin Martin, who tied his season best jump of 6ft. Micheal Bottego placed 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 46ft 2in. In the Pole Vault, Jacob Adair placed 2nd with a season best vault of 13ft. Micheal Bottego also took 4th in the Discus. Now, we move onto the track. In the 800m run, Jacob Triesch took first place with a time of 2:01. Jacob Nava placed 4th with a time of 2:06. The 4×200 relay took 2nd place and consisted of Byron Clark, Ben Willis, Miakil Uno and Jarien Mcvea. The boys’ 4×100 relay took first place with a season best time of 42.37 seconds. That team consisted of Tylen Guidry, Reggie Solomon, Xavian Marks and Marcellus Baker. Torin Marks took second and set a personal best in the 400m dash with a time of 50.77, and Fred Carr took third with a time of 51.45. Alec Waldschmidt took 2nd in the 3200 with a time of 10:04. Alex Sims took 4th in the 3200 with a time of 10:37. In the 300 hurdles, LeRoy Franklin took 3rd with a time of 42.21. Franklin also took 4th in the 110 hurdles. Byron Clark took 4th in the 200m with a time of 23.25. Alec Waldschmidt and Jacob Nava placed 4th and 5th in the 1600. Xavian Marks won the 100m dash with a season best of 10.70. The boys will compete at the 88th annual Texas Relays this weekend and the College Park Invite as well.

Varsity Track and Field – LCISD Invitational Results

Girls – Congratulations to the girls’ varsity track team and their first place overall team win at the LCISD Invite. The ladies had a windy start in field events with Lisa Egege and Geordann Yelder placing 4th in Triple Jump and Long Jump. There was a 4-way tie for 3rd in girls’ high jump with Alexis Thomas and Samantha Chartier being a part of that tie. The ladies battled cold and wind in running events and never let it bother them one bit. To start off with running events, Theresa McComiskey placed 5th in the 3200 run. The girls’ 4×100 placed 2nd with Jazmyne Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Kearah Nails and Geordann Yelder. In the 100-meter hurdles, Abisola Anifowoshe placed 3rd, and Alexis Thomas 4th. Lisa Egege pummeled competition in the 100-meter dash and contributed the last leg to the winning 4×200 relay with Chidube Ogbonna, Kandice Miles and Destiny Rutherford. Jazmyne Rutherford slayed competition winning the girls’ 400meter dash with teammate Chigozie Close behind with a 2nd place. In the girls’ 300meter hurdles, Alexis Thomas placed 4th and Brianna Franklin placed 5th. Kandice Miles placed 2nd in the 200, running it for the first time ever, and Destiny Rutherford placed 4th. In the 1600 Theresa McComiskey placed 5th in the girls’ mile. The girls’ 4×400 relay placed first, sealing the overall standings for the meet. The Longhorn track team will be off this week and will have their next competition over spring break at Clear Creek High School. Way to go, ladies!!!!

Boys – The varsity boys’ track team won the LCISD Relays! Outstanding performances were: Xavian Marks, Darius Anderson, Tylen Guidry for sweeping the long jump placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Tylen Guidry set a new school record in the triple jump and placed 1st in the triple jump. LeRoy Franklin placed 6th in the triple jump and placed 4th in the 300m hurdles. Kerin Martin tied for 4th in the high jump. Xavian Marks placed 2nd in the 100m dash. Robert Platt placed 2nd in the pole vault. Trevion Wyche placed 4th in the discus. Jacob Triesch wins the 3200m run and Jacob Nava place 2nd. Cory Gorman placed 2nd in the 400m. Torin Marks placed 4th in the 400m. Wilson Hinz placed 2nd in the 1600m run. The boys’ 4×4 relay placed 2nd.  Fredrick Carr placed 5th in the 200m.

Boys’ Track and Field – Oakridge Invitational Results

The boys’ varsity track & field team competed at the Oak Ridge Invitational on Saturday. Overall the team placed 3rd of 11 teams. Top performances were from Xavian Marks and Tylen Guidry in the long jump. Xavian Marks‘ leap of 23 feet ranks him 4th in the country, and Tylen Guidry‘s jump of 22ft 10in ranks him 5th in the country! Also, Xavian Marks breaks the school record in the long jump. In the discus, Trevion Wyche placed 2nd with a new school record of 156ft 10.75in. Michael Bottego placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 45ft 4in. In the triple jump, LeRoy Franklin placed 3rd with a leap of 42ft 4.25in. In the high jump, Kerin Martin finishes 4th with a personal best of 6 feet. The sprint medley placed 3rd with a time of 3:40. Members of that team were Byron Clark, Fred Carr, Ben Willis and Jacob Trisch. The distance medley also placed 3rd with a time of 11:13.30. The members consisted of Wilson Hinz, Cory Gorman, Jacob Nava and Hunter Breeze. The boys’ 4×100 meter placed 6th overall with a time of 43.75. Members were Marcellas Baker, Joseph Rios, Tylen Guidry and Jarin McVea. The 4×200 meter relay team place 1st with atime of 1:29.14. Members were Fred Carr, Byron Clark, Jarin McVea and Xavian Marks. In the 200, Xavian Marks placed 3rd with a personal best time of 22.10. The boys’ 4×400 meter relay placed 3rd with a season best time of 3:20.78. Members were Farr Carr, Cory Gorman, Ben Willis and Xavian Marks. In the 2-mile race, Alec Waldschmith won with a time of 9:45, a great performance by Alec. The boys’ Varsity track team competes this Friday at the LCISD Relays at Traylor Stadium. Come support our Longhorns as they continue to get better each week!

Boys’ Track and Field – Bubba Fife Relay Results

The varsity boys’ track team had an outstanding first track meet at the Bubba Fife Relays. The Sprint Medley relay placed 6th with members consisting of Byron Clark, Xavian Marks, Ben Willis and Jacob Nava. The Distance Medley placed 2nd. Those members consist of Hunter Breeze, Jacob Triesch, Alec Waldschmith and Cory Gorman. The 4×800 relay placed third with the members of Jacob Nava, Wilson Hinz, Hunter Breeze and Jacob Triesch. They set a new school record for the event. Leroy Franklin placed 6th in the 300-meter hurdles. The 4×200 meter relay placed 1st overall with the members consisting of Fred Carr, Cory Gorman, Mikial Onu, and Xavian Marks. The 4×400 meter relay placed 2nd overall. Members were Ben Willis, Xavian Marks, Fred Carr and Cory Gorman. The boys finished 3rd overall at the Bubba Fife Relays, an accomplishment that has never happened before in school history. Go Longhorns!

The boys’ pole vaulters placed 4th and 6th. Nathen Grayson place 4th, and Robert Platt placed 6th. Boys’ shot put: Michael Bottego set a new school record and placed 6th overall. In the Discus: Trevion Wyche placed 6th overall. Great first track meet, Longhorns!!

Winter and Spring Sports Tryouts

Girls’ Track & Field – All girls interested in trying out for the 2015 track and field season must see head girls’ Coach A. Dutch or Coach Gloff by Tuesday, November 25th. Practice starts Monday, December 1st. Requirements are to have an athletic physical packet on file, as well as be in good standing with academics and discipline in order to try out.

Boys’ Track & Field – All boys interested in trying out for the 2015 track and field season must see head boys’ Coach T. Dutch or Coach Fairhurst by Tuesday, November 25th. Practice starts Monday, December 1st. Requirements are to have an athletic physical packet on file, as well as be in good standing with academics and discipline in order to try out.

Boys’ Soccer – The George Ranch boys’ soccer team will be having open tryouts on Monday, December 1st through Wednesday, December 3rd after school from 4:00-5:30pm. Anyone interested in trying out for the 2014-2015 season will need to sign up with Coach Torres in Room 2319 and have an athletic physical on file for the 2014-2015 school year.

Girls’ Soccer – If you are interested in being a part of the girls soccer program, tryouts will be held from 4:00-5:30pm on December 1st- December 3rd. If you are interested, please see Coach Pratt in room 1610 for more information. Remember that you must have a current completed LCISD Athletic Physical on file to tryout!

Tennis – If anyone is interested in playing tennis this spring, please come see Coach Guidry in room 2412.

Boys Track – State Championship

Chandler Heikkila represented the Boys’ Track and Field team at the 4A State Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 9. Chandler competed in the 3200 meters finishing 6th with a personal best time and new school record of 9:40.56. Congratulations!!

2014 Sports Banquet

The 2014 Winter and Spring Sports Banquet honoring Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling, and Student Athletic Trainers will be on Wednesday, May 14th @ 6:30pm. We will all meet in the GRHS Auditorium prior to breaking off into our specific sports. Hope to see you all there!
