2014 Sports Banquet

The 2014 Winter and Spring Sports Banquet honoring Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling, and Student Athletic Trainers will be on Wednesday, May 14th @ 6:30pm. We will all meet in the GRHS Auditorium prior to breaking off into our specific sports. Hope to see you all there!

Academic All-State Golfers

Congratulations to senior golfers Will Ward and Trey French for being selected to the THSCA academic all-state golf teams. Will was selected as a member of the first team academic all-state, and Trey is a member of the second team academic all-state.

Golf – Regional Tournament Results

The Longhorn boys’ golf team qualified for the 4A state golf tournament by finishing in third place at the region tournament. The boys’ first team shot rounds of 313 and 324, which put them into a tie with Friendswood who took second place on the first sudden death playoff hole. Will Ward finished in 5th place individually with his rounds of 75 and 77. Zach Mull 79-80, Marcus Lopez 80-82, Paul Ferrette 79-90, and Zane Warren 85-85 will also make the trip to Austin in two weeks. The girls’ team finished up the year with an 11th place finish at the region tournament with rounds of 399-392. Freshman Tenzin Palkyi finished in 14th place with her rounds of 80-81. Other scores were Brooke Murphy 98-94, Aubrie Luckenbill 99-94, Kylie Clark 122-125, and Audrey Nguyen 130-123. Great year, ladies! The boys’ second team placed 13th with rounds of 358-345. Individually, their scores were Bobby Vega 84-85, Manuel Londono 86-85, Drew Hartman 90-90, Ross Johansen 100-85, and Brian Noh 98-92.

Varsity Golf – District Tournament Results

The boys’ varsity golfers finished first and second in the district championship, which qualifies both teams to play in the region tournament next week. The championship team members are Marcus Lopez, Zane Warren, Will Ward, Zach Mull, and Manuel Londono. Finishing in second as a team and going to regionals are Paul Ferrette, Bobby Vega, Ross Johansen, Drew Hartman, and Brian Noh. Marcus Lopez is the individual district champion with Ferrette 2nd, Warren 3rd, Ward 4th, Vega 6th, Mull 7th, Londono 9th and Johansen 10th. That’s 8 out of the top ten individual places!  The girls’ varsity golf team also qualified for the region tournament finishing in second place at the district tournament. Tenzin Palkyi-3rd overall, Brooke Murphy-5th overall, Aubrie Luckenbill-7th overall, Kylie Clark, and Audrey Nguyen will be moving on to the region tournament next week in Sealy. Also competing as medalists were Adam Garza, Matthew Mills, Lance Ferguson, Erin Templin, Nora Harrison, and Katie Koerth. Great job, Longhorn golfers!

Golf – River Pointe Results

Twenty-two Longhorn golfers teed it up Thursday at River Pointe Golf Club. Freshmen Zane Warren-74 and Marcus Lopez-75 finished in second and third place overall, respectively. Zach Mull-76, Manuel Londono-78, and Drew Hartman-79 also finished in the top ten at the event. Freshman Tenzin Palkyi finished in a three-way tie for first place with her round of 81. In the playoff, Palkyi was knocked out on the second playoff hole to finish in 3rd place overall. Brooke Murphy-95 (4th place), Aubrie Luckenbill-99 (5th place), and Kylie Clark-111 were the next finishers. Good luck at district Monday and Tuesday, Longhorns!

Girls’ Varsity Golf – LCISD Spring Invitational Results

Freshman Tenzin Palkyi won the LCISD Spring Invitational on Thursday with her round of 83. Tenzin clinched the victory on the first playoff hole. The girls’ team finished in second place with a score of 397. Brooke Murphy-93, Aubrie Luckenbill– 103, Kylie Clark -118 and Audrey Nguyen -122 earned the medals in the rain and wind. Awesome job, ladies!

JV Girls’ Golf – Wharton Tournament Results

The girls’ JV golf team traveled to Wharton on Wednesday. Participating in the tournament were Audrey Nguyen, Erin Templin, Nora Harrison, and Katie Koerth. With very muddy conditions, the girls finished with a team score of 489.

Varsity Boys’ Golf – Region 3 4A Preview Tournament

The boys’ varsity golf team took second place in the Region 3 4A preview tournament in Sealy. The team shot a 320 on day 1 and was in a tie for 5th place. The Longhorns then shot the second best team score of day two with a 323 that propelled them into second. Congratulations Zach Mull, Will Ward, Zane Warren, Paul Ferrette, and Marcus Lopez.

Boys’ JV Golf – Pecan Grove CC Results

The boys’ JV golf team finished in 4th place Monday at Pecan Grove Country Club with a team score of 356. Sophomore Chris Lopez finished 2nd place individually with his round of 74. Lance Ferguson-92, Zach Gilbert-93, Adam Garza-97, and Mathew Mills-105 were the highest placing 4A school in the field of 16 teams.

The boys’ Varsity golf 1st team shot season low scores of 312 on Monday at Fort Bend Country Club and Tuesday at Weston Lakes to finish in a tie with 2013 3A state qualifier El Campo, but they came up short on the first playoff hole to finish in second place. The Longhorns fought back from a 13-shot first day deficit to force the playoff. Will Ward finished in second place overall with his 79 on day one and school-record tying even par 72 on day two. Zach Mull 75-80, Paul Ferrette 85-79, Marcus Lopez 78-81, and Zane Warren 80-86 rounded out the scoring. The varsity second team finished in 4th place as a team with its 324-355. Manuel Londono led the way with his 82-80. Bobby Vega, Drew Hartman, Ross Johansen, and Brian Noh rounded out the team.

The boys’ golf team traveled to River Pointe Golf Course on Tuesday. The team of Adam Garza, Lance Ferguson, Trey French, and Justin Cochran finished 7th with a team score of 364. Garza shot a team low 84. The second team of Matthew Mills, Chase Walker, Jack Weaver, and Zach Gilbert finished 10th with a team score of 369. Mills shot a team low 82.
