Girls’ Soccer v. Foster

The Longhorns’ quest for a district title took them to the home of the Falcons on Friday night.

Varsity – The varsity then took the field with the sole purpose to remove all doubt of who runs this district. The Longhorns accomplished the task winning 3-0. Haley Hartnett scored all three goals with Kathryn Thaxton providing 2 assists and Allyson Dernehl assisting one goal. Great effort from the entire team on this win!

JV – The JV got the ball rolling winning 3-0 with Jenna Sanders, Taylor Rech and Kasey Davis all scoring and Claire McInnis getting the only assist.

The girls play at home on Tuesday against the Angleton Wildcats.

Girls’ Soccer v. Calhoun

The Longhorns’ quest for yet another victory led them to the freezing seaside mist of Port Lavaca on Tuesday night. Although the field may have been small, the Longhorns played big, defeating the Sandies 8-0. Michelle Mills led the way offensively for the Longhorns with 2 goals. Shreya Desai, Taty Herrera, Haley Hartnett, Sydney Heikkila, Jordan Shimaitis and Ariana Salazar each added one goal. That win ended the first round of district play with the girls 5-0 sitting in first place. The girls travel to Foster to start the second round on Friday. Come out and support your Longhorns.

Girls’ Soccer v. Lamar

Varsity – The Varsity girls continued the domination of the Lady Mustangs by defeating them 10-0. Kathryn Thaxton and Jordan Shimaitis both scored 3 goals each, with Colleen Janecek, Gabby Galvan, Sydney Heikkila, and Michelle Mills all adding to the tally. It was an all you can eat buffet with Meghan Burger serving up 3 assists on the night. Ally Dernehl, Haley Hartnett, Maddi Nicholson and Shreya Desai also provided assists on the night.

JV – With the ominous clouds looming in the distance and a strong wind gusting, the Longhorn JV girls’ soccer team took the field on Friday versus the Lady Mustangs from Lamar. The Horns took charge early and had a truly balanced effort, scoring four goals in each half rendering the wind and the Mustang defense both as nonfactors in the game. Tallying scores for George Ranch were Heidi Jacko, Marissa Vrba, Lucy Perez, Claire McInnis, Taylor Reech and Janet Avalos each with one goal and Tayler Jasek with two goals. Assisting on the scoring opportunities were Jenna Sanders, Sofia Arreola, Charlotte Winegand, Lara Olabisi and two assists from Taylor Reech. The win keeps the Longhorns undefeated in district play.

The Longhorns make the long trek to Calhoun on Tuesday to finish out the first round of district play.

Girls’ Soccer v. Angleton & Terry

The Longhorn girls’ soccer teams traveled to Angleton last Friday night to take on the Lady Wildcats and took on the Terry Rangers on Tuesday.

Varsity – The varsity girls got off to a slow start, which allowed the Lady Cats a PK. The girls then turned it into high gear scoring 4 unanswered goals, defeating theWildcats 4-1. Jordan Shimaitis, Shreya Desai, Allyson Dernehl and Maddi Nicholson all scored on the night. Solid play came from Kathryn Thaxton, Raven Towns, Riley Murray and Sydney Heikkila. On Tuesday, the girls took on the Lady Rangers from Terry. The girls defeated Terry with a 4-0 victory. Colleen Janecek, Haley Hartnett, Jordan Shimaitis and Shreya Desai all scored on the night, with Ariana Salazar and Raven Towns providing assists. Solid play came from Mehgan Burger and Maddi Nicholson.

JV – The JV girls came away with a decisive 4-0 victory against Angleton. Tayler Jaseck, Kasey Davis, Sofia Arreola and Taylor Rech all scored on the night. Excellent playcame from Austin Martz, Dany Torres, Maddie Woodfin, and Lucy Perez.

The girls continue district play on Friday when they host Lamar.

Girls’ Soccer v. Foster

The girls’ soccer teams opened up district play against cross-town rival Foster last night.

Varsity – The varsity girls played in an exciting and extremely physical game and came up with a strong 2-0 victory over the Lady Falcons. Ally Dernehl and Jordan Shimaitis both scored goals for the Longhorns with Kathryn Thaxton providing both assists on the night. Michelle Mills came up big in the goal collecting 10 saves, with Shana Hardin and Madeline Bares providing solid defense for the Longhorns.

JV – The JV girls took control of the game early and never looked back, defeating the Lady Falcons 7-0. Taylor Rech led the night scoring a hat trick (3 goals). Lara Olabisi, Kasey Davis, Jenna Sanders and KK Hydo each added one goal for the Longhorns. The whole team played excellent defense that contributed to the shutout.

The girls travel to Angleton to continue district play against the Lady Wildcats on Friday.

Girls’ Soccer v. Aldine

The girls’ soccer teams played their last tune-up games before district play last Friday night against Aldine.

Varsity – The varsity girls collected another win with a 4-0 victory over the Lady Mustangs. Shreya Desai led the scoring with 2 goals, with Kathryn Thaxton and Mehgan Burger each adding a goal on the night. Lillie Landaverde and Taty Herrera both had stand out game for the Longhorns, with Emma Elkins keeping the net clean.

JV – The JV squad took to the field and defeated the Lady Mustangs 4-0. Taylor Rech led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist on the night, with Janet Avalos and Kasey Davis each adding a goal. Sofia Arreola also added an assist on the night. KK Hydo and Jenna Sanders kept the net clean for the Longhorns. Dany Torres, Tayler Jaseck and Hadley Perez all played solid games for the Longhorns.

Girls’ Soccer v. La Porte

The girls’ soccer teams traveled to La Porte on Tuesday night to take on the Bulldogs.

Varsity – Thevarsity girls got off to a sluggish start and had to fight back from giving up anearly goal to win 2-1 over the Bulldogs. Kathryn Thaxton and Colleen Janecek each scored one goal. Emma Elkins played an impressive game in the goal, saving 12 shots that La Porte sent her way. Shreya Desai, Sydney Heikkla, Madeline Bares and Jordan Shimattis all had solid games on the field.

JV – JV started out the night by pushing the pace of the game and winning 3-0. Charlotte Wiegand, Tayler Jasek and Taylor Rech all scored for the Longhorns. Outstanding defensive play came from Maddie Woodfin and Heidi Jacko, with Lucy Perez and Lara Olabisi having great offensive games.

The girls will play at home Friday night at 5 and 7. Come out and support your Longhorns!

Girls’ Soccer v. Fort Bend Bush

The girls’ soccer team traveled to Fort Bend Bush Friday evening to take on the Lady Broncos.

Varsity – The Varsity team followed suit by defeating the Broncos 4-0. Riley Murray, Allyson Dernehl and Shreya Desai each scored one goal and had one assist, with Kathryn Thaxton rounding out the scoring with one goal. Maddi Nicholson, Jordan Shimaitis and Sydney Heikkila all had excellent play throughout the game.

JV – The JV led off the night with a 3-0 victory for the Longhorns. Lara Olabasi, Tayler Jasek, and Sofia Arreola all scored, with Jenna Sanders and Janet Avalos providing the assists. Claire McInnis and Lucy Perez both had standout games.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer – I-10 Shootout Results

The varsity team competed in the I-10 shootout over the weekend. They started Friday afternoon against FB Bush. The girls came out and scored early and defeated the Broncos 6-0. Gabby Galvan lead the scoring front with 3 goals. Ally Dernehl scored 2, and Haley Hartnett collected 1 goal and served up 1 assist. Kathryn Thaxton served up 3 assists, and Riley Murray added one. This win sent the girls to the final where they matched up against Morton Ranch. The girls played in an extremely physical game and came up on the losing end 1-0 to the Lady Mavericks. Colleen Janecek, Madeline Bares, Shana Hardin and Mehgan Burger all had excellent games for the Longhorns throughout the physical play. The Longhorns also collected an honor when Allyson Dernehl was named to the I-10 Shootout’s All-Tournament team for her play during the tournament. The Longhorns will travel to FB Bush on Friday.
