Softball Beat Lamar

softballThe Varsity softball team beat the Lamar Lady Mustangs this past Friday in exciting fashion. The Mustangs struck first scoring a run in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning Kayte Martinez reached on an error and then Sydney Scott hit a homerun making the score 2-1 Longhorns. The score remained 2-1 until the top of the 7th when Lamar took advantage of some Longhorn errors and pulled ahead 3-2. Down to their final out in the bottom of the 7th the Longhorns offensive leader for the game Sydney Scott legged out a triple off of the left field wall. With a runner in scoring position and the Longhorns looking to tie the game London Diller hit a walk off homerun to win the game for the Longhorns 4-3. The team is now 3-1 in district and will travel to Port Lavaca to take on Calhoun on Tuesday.

Softball Sweeps Terry

softballThe JV softball team beat the Terry Rangers, 17-1. The winning pitcher was Alyssa Osadchuk. Hitting was led by Nevada Dolnik and Remme Loos both with 2 run triples.  Varsity softball beat the Terry Rangers 10-0 in 5 innings. Offensive standouts were Sydney Scott who hit a triple, a homerun, and had 3 RBI’s and Larissa Eversole who hit a single, a double, and had 2 RBIs. The team will take on Lamar Friday at home.

Softball vs. Angleton

softballThe JV softball team was out hit Friday against Angleton. Lauren Burkett had the lone RBI as the Longhorns dropped the game 6-1. The varsity softball team lost to Angleton on Friday in extra innings. The Longhorns struck early when Sydney Scott tripled in the top of the first and then London Diller squeezed her in. After Angleton took the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning the Longhorns rallied to tie it back up on RBI doubles by Kayte Martinez and London Diller. The Wildcats hit a game-winning double in the bottom of the 9th inning to make the score 4-3. The Longhorns move to 1-1 in district and will play Terry at home on Tuesday.

Softball Sweeps Foster

softballThe JV softball team won Tuesday night against Foster, 9-1. Pitching the one hit game was Nevada Dolnik and Alyssa Osadchuk. Hitting was led by Emmy Burns who had a two run triple.

The Varsity softball team opened up district play Tuesday night with an exciting win over Foster 2-0. Alexis Tovar held strong on the mound through all 7 innings she had 9 strikeouts, no walks, and only allowed 2 hits. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 6th when Kim Williams led off with a single. Hallie Schmitt came in to pinch run and stole second base to give the Longhorns a runner in scoring position. Hallie moved to third on a passed ball and then London Diller executed a squeeze bunt that allowed two Longhorn runners to score.

Softball Defeated Seven Lakes

softballThe Varsity softball team defeated the Seven Lakes Spartans by a score of 5-1 last Friday before Spring Break. Offensively, the Longhorns combined for 7 hits. The Longhorns struck first when Kayte Martinez scored on a hit by Taylor Pesina in the bottom of the 1st. The Longhorns added 2 more in the 3rd on hits by London Diller and Taylor Pesina. A 3-0 lead became even greater with a hit in the 4th inning by Sydney Scott scoring Destiny Walker and Lily Pearson. The team opens district at home on Tuesday versus Foster.

Softball at LCISD Tourney

softballThe Varsity softball team wrapped up tournament play in the LCISD tournament this past weekend by going 5 and 1. On Friday, the Longhorns lost to Harleton 5-1. The lone run was scored on a homerun by Taylor Pesina. The Longhorns outlasted the Needville BlueJays with a 10-9 victory in extra innings. Sydney Scott was hot at the plate against Needville and led the offensive charge with 2 singles, 1 triple, and 3 RBI’s. On Saturday, the Longhorns outscored their opponents 21-0. London Diller got the win on the mound versus Stratford. London Diller and Kim Williams hit back to back homeruns and Kayte Martinez had 2 singles, a stolen base, and an RBI to power the Longhorns over Stratford 10-0. In the last game on Saturday the Longhorns defeated Ganado 11-0. Alexis Tovar pitched a perfect game on the mound with 7 strikeouts, no walks, and no hits. Kayte Martinez, Sydney Scott, and Larissa Eversole each had a multi-hit game for the Longhorns. Come out to the Ranch on Friday for a home game vs Seven Lakes.

Softball at LCISD Tourney

softballThe Varsity Softball team competed in day 1 of the LCISD tournament at George Ranch on Thursday. In the first game versus the Sealy Tigers, Alexis Tovar led the charge defensively racking up 8 strike-outs and only giving up 2 hits. Offensive standouts were Kayte Martinez who went 2 for 3 at the plate and had 3 stolen bases and Lily Pearson who had a solo homerun. The Longhorns beat the Tigers 5-0. In game 2 versus the Elsik Knights, London Diller got the win on the mound and hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 4th inning that started a scoring rally for the Longhorns. Extra base hits from Lily Pearson, Larissa Eversole, Taylor Pesina, and Kim Williams helped the Longhorns beat the Knights 13-3.

Softball Tourney Results

softballThe JV softball team traveled to the Brazoswood tournament this past weekend, and finshed going 2 and 2. They picked up wins over Brazosport and Needville, but fell short versus Deer Park and Brazoswood. Pitching was led by Alyssa Osadchuk who picked up both wins by the Longhorns. The team hit well, scoring 35 runs in the 4 games. The Longhorns play at West Columbia on Friday. The Varsity softball team completed play in the Haynie Spirit Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The team traveled to Santa Fe on Friday and took on Corpus Christi Carroll and Santa Fe. Alexis Tovar got the win on the mound for the Longhorns against Corpus Christi Carroll. Sydney Scott went 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s and Shelby Kvinta added a solo homerun to help the Longhorns win 4-1. In game 2 against Santa Fe despite a late inning offensive surge early errors cost the Longhorns as they dropped the game 6-4. The Varsity softball team traveled to Dobie High School on Saturday to play Friendswood and Dobie. In game one against Friendswood Alexis Tovar had a strong performance on the mound. She kept the Longhorns in the game and had 4 strike-outs. Jewelisa Zamora had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s while Shelby Kvinta had a game-tying 3 run homer. Despite the late comeback the Longhorns ended in a 5-5 tie with Friendswood. In the final game of the tournament versus Dobie the Longhorns had a great team win 11-5. The Longhorns will continue play in the LCISD tournament this weekend.

Softball at Haney Spirit Tourney

softballThe Varsity softball team played in the Haney Spirit tournament in Pearland on Thursday. In game 1 the Longhorns tied the Sterling Rangers 4-4 and in game 2 the Longhorns lost to Tomball 1-0. The Longhorns continue play on Friday.

Softball at Katy Tourney

softballThe Varsity softball team played the defending 6A state champ Katy Tigers on Friday. The Longhorns struck first when Kayte Martinez scored on a hit by London Diller. Katy answered in the 4th inning by scoring 2 runs, but the Longhorns quickly answered back in the bottom of the 5th to tie it up when Lily Pearson scored on a Tiger error. Alexis Tovar went the distance on the mound keeping the Longhorns in the game until the Tigers busted it open in the top of the 10th to score 3 runs and went on to beat the Longhorns 5-2. The Varsity softball team continued play in the Katy ISD tournament on Saturday. The Longhorns went 2 and 1 for the day by defeating Fort Bend Travis 1-0, losing to Seven Lakes 2-1, and then beating Cy Falls 7-5. In game one against Travis, the Longhorns had 6 hits, an RBI by Kim Williams, and London Diller had 6 strikeouts on the mound to get the win. In game two against Seven Lakes, Larissa Eversole hit a double and had a stolen base. In the final game of the day against Cy Falls, the Longhorns had 14 hits with Senior Sydney Scott leading the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s.
