Girls’ Varsity Basketball v. LaMarque

Basketball

The varsity girls took on the LaMarque Cougars this past Saturday. The Lady Longhorns lead the entire game and ended with a big win 66-33. The leading scorers were Cerinitee Adams with 11 points and Kendall Bess with 10 points. The Lady Longhorns are gearing up for district and will take on Foster this Friday.

JV Girls’ Basketball – Fort Bend Tournament Results

Basketball

The JV girls competed in the Fort Bend Basketball Tournament this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns beat Clements 35-23. The leading scorers were Chidube Ogbonna with 8 points and Leneece Haynes with 7 points. The Lady Longhorns took on Fort Bend Bush in the next round and won 45-28. Chidube Ogbonna finished with 17 points, and Hannah Agner added 9 points. The Lady Longhorns played Fort Bend Austin in the semifinals and won 49-37. The leading scorers were Chidube Ogbonna with 15 points and Hannah Agner with 12 points. The Lady Longhorns took on Fort Bend Travis in the championship game and won 49-40. The leading scorers were Chidube Ogbonna with 18 points and Jerrica Simon with 14 points. The JV girls finished ahead of several top 6A schools including Hightower. Congratulations to the JV girls’ basketball team for winning the Fort Bend tournament this past weekend!

Girls’ Basketball v. Morton Ranch

Basketball

The Lady Longhorns Freshman and Varsity teams took on Morton Ranch on Friday night.

The freshman girls beat Morton Ranch 41-26. The leading scorers were Chinazam Omeludike with 16 points followed by Brittney White with 9 points.

The Varsity girls also finished with a big win, 36-23. Kendall Bess finished the game with 14 points. Enaya White scored 7 points and had 5 steals. Julia Schwake also added 7 points.

Girls’ Basketball v. Mayde Creek

Basketball

Varsity – The Lady Longhorns ended the night with 3 big wins. The varsity girls won 50-28. Julia Schwake lead the team with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Kendall Bess chipped in 9 points and 4 blocks. Alexis White had 11 rebounds.

JV – The JV girls won 48-21. Chidube Ogbonna and Leneece Haynes both finished in double digits. Chidube scored 15 points and Leneece finished with 11 points.

Freshman – The freshman girls beat Mayde Creek 22-14. Jasmine Hendrix lead the freshman team with 8 points.

Girls’ Basketball v. Katy

Basketball

Varsity – The varsity girls trailed Katy by 21 points at halftime on Tuesday, but they came alive during the second half of the game. The Lady Longhorns fought to the end, but fell short to Katy 63-51. The leading scorers were Alexis White with 10 points and Julia Schwake with 9 points.

JV – The JV girls went into halftime down by one point. The girls battled it out until the end of the game, but came up short at the end 62-54. The leading scorers were Chidube Ogbonna with 14 points and Hannah Agner with 12 points.

Freshmen – The freshmen girls trailed by 12 points in the first quarter. The girls made a huge comeback during the second quarter, trailing by only one point at halftime. The Lady Longhorns fell short to Katy 42-39. The leading scorers were Jasmine Hendrix with 12 points and Chinazum Omeludike with 10 points.

Girls’ Basketball v. Needville

Basketball

JV – The Lady Longhorns took on Needville last Friday. The JV girls played a strong defensive game. The Lady Longhorns pulled away from Needville in the 2nd quarter. We beat Needville 46-16. Leneece Haynes and Chidube Ogbonna finished with 12 points each.

Varsity – The varsity girls started the game with an aggressive press, but came up short at the end. The Lady Longhorns fell short by one point, 48-47. The leading scorers were Alexis White with 12 points and Kendall Bess with 11 points.

Girls’ Basketball v. El Campo

Basketball

The girls’ basketball teams traveled to El Campo yesterday.

Varsity – The varsity girls also came up with a big win last night against El Campo. The Longhorns pulled away from El Campo in the third quarter with a 14-point lead. The final score of the varsity game was 60-44. Julia Schwake lead the team with 18 points, followed by Alexis White with 13 points.

JV – The junior varsity girls pulled away from the Ricebirds in the third quarter with a 33-16 lead. The girls went on to finish the game with a 50-23 win. Leading scorers were Chidube Ogbonna with 13 points and Jerrica Simon with 11 points.

Freshman – The freshmen girls lead the first half by 1 point. The girls battled the second half out, but fell short at the end. The Longhorns came up short by one point, 30-29. Jasmine Hendrix lead the freshmen girls with 12 points.

Varsity Girls’ Basketball – Goose Creek Tournament Results

Basketball

The Longhorns Varsity girls took on South Houston in the 2nd round of tournament play last Friday and came up with a big 46-27 win. Kendall Bess led with 11 points, while Julia Schwake added 10 to aid in the Longhorns’ effort. The Longhorns advanced to take on a tough Dobie squad on Saturday. Both teams were tied 45-45 at the end of the 4th quarter taking the game into overtime. Dobie was able to outscore GRHS in OT by 9, ending with a score of 54-45 Dobie. Julia Schwake led the team with 19 points, and Kendall Bess was also in double digits with 11.

Girls’ Basketball v. Clear Falls – Varsity Goose Creek Tournament

Basketball

The Varsity girls’ basketball team travel to Baytown to take on the Clear Falls Knights yesterday in the first round of tournament play. The Longhorns led at the half by one point, and held the lead all the way through the 3rd quarter, entering the 4th leading by 2. The Knights put together 8 back-to-back free throws to steal the lead. Although it was a great team effort, the Longhorns fell to Clear Falls 48-63. The team was led by guard Kearah Nails and Kendall Bess both with 10 points a piece, as well as freshman Shelby Kvinta who had 9, all from behind the 3-point line. The Horns will match up against South Houston tomorrow at 12:30pm!
