Girls Cross Country News

Varsity – The GRHS girls’ cross country team competed at the South Houston Invite last week. Freshman Theresa McComisky blazed her way to a new school 5K record at 20:12. She placed 15th overall out of 124 competitors. Sophomore Alexis Aikens placed 25th overall and ran a personal best time of 21:07 which replaces her own record she set as the third fastest 5K in school history. Overall, the Longhorns placed 9th out of 17 teams, and contributions were made by junior Parker McCarley who ran a personal best time of 22:41 and placed 60th overall and freshman Jasmine Frechel who ran a personal best time of 22:44 and placed 62nd overall. Rounding out the top finishers for the Longhorns was freshman Katia Davis who placed 70th overall and ran a personal best time of 22:57.

JV – The girls’ JV team competed, and juniors Payton Rouse and Parker McCarley both placed in the top 20 medaling with 15th and 18th finishes. Linda Etufugh, Lauren Nguyen, and Sophia Keast finished 29th, 40th and 62nd out of over 150 competitors to round out the top five places for the Longhorns. Hayley Lindstrom and Brittany Freeland ran extremely well being the 6th and 7th finishers for the JV girls.

The regular season is over, and we wish the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams the best of luck as they prepare for the District Cross Country Championships on Wednesday at Seabourne Park in Rosenberg.

The GRHS Girls Cross Country teams traveled to the Bulldog Invite in LaPorte Thursday afternoon.

Varsity A – Battling the midday heat, the Varsity A team placed 4th overall out of 12 teams being the only 5A school to compete in the 6A division. Top 5 leaders were Theresa McComisky who medaled and placed 12th overall, Alexis Aikens placed 34th, Sydney Heikkila placed 37th, Parker McCarley placed 46th, and Katia Davis placed 48th. Rounding out the 50th spot was Natalie Quarantino. The ladies did extremely well and are ready to compete as they prepare for the Clear Lake Invite this week. Awesome job, Longhorns!

Varsity B – In the Varsity B division, senior Elizabeth Hinz finished 11th overall and freshman Grayson Thomas finished 15th. These ladies represented us very well both having top 20 places with over 100 girls competing.

JV – In our junior varsity division, the Longhorns placed 4th overall. The leader of the pack was Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford who medaled and placed 8th overall. The next 4 runners that contributed to the scoring were Payton Rouse with a 25th place finish, Linda Etufugh with a 27th finish, Mara Niggeman with a 33rd place finish, and Sophia Keast with a 53rd place finish. Great job to all!

Varsity – The GRHS girls’ Varsity cross country team competed in the Brazosport Invite at Surfside Beach this past weekend. The Longhorns placed second overall after two consecutive weeks of cancelled meets. Freshman Theresa McComisky represented the Longhorns very well placing first overall in the Varsity girls division. She took charge of the race and never looked back to solidify her first place position. Other contributions to the team placing were junior Sydney Heikkila placing 8th overall, freshman Natalie Quarantino placing 9th overall, freshman Jasmine Frechel placing 10th overall, and junior Parker McCarley placing 11th overall. Freshman Katia Davis helped pushed her teammates as well with a 12th place finish. Way to go!!!

JV – Congratulations to the girls’ Junior Varsity cross country team on their first place team finish at the Brazosport Invite. Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford brought home the gold as Grayson Thomas, Elizabeth Hinz, Mara Niggeman and Lauren Nguyen also claimed 5 out of the top 10 spots. Payton Rouse and Collette Knoblauch finished respectively with top 20 finishes in the JV girls’ division.
