Wrestling – Foster Classic Results

The Longhorns competed in the Falcon Classic wrestling tournament at Foster HS this past Saturday.

Girls’ Varsity – The girls’ varsity finished 5th overall. Alanis Ventura placed 4th; Shekina Bonner-Spiller and Diana Luong placed 3rd; and Alexys Alameda was tournament champion at 165 pounds.

Boys’ Varsity – The Varsity boys placed 7th overall. Hunter Jessup placed 6th; Donell Brager placed 5th; Dante Giordano and Bailey Reyhons placed 4th; Brad Cross and Zach Jackson place 3rd; and Corey Chartier place 2nd.

JV – The JV wrestlers were tournament champions with 168 points. Placing 6th was Emmanuel Onuoha; placing 5th were Braden Bean and Kevin
Wallin; placing 4th were Grayson Watson and Malcolm Wright; placing 3rd were Andrew Paul and Zach Edwards; placing 2nd were Colby Bonds and Mario Rios; and tournament champions were Reese Johnson at 106 pounds, Ricky Boehck at 145 pounds, and Nathan Hernandez at 220 pounds.

JV Wrestling – Mayde Creek Quad Results

The JV wrestlers competed in a quad at Mayde Creek last night. Standouts were Cameron Fehres, Reese Johnson and Emmanuel Onuoha. All three divisions of wrestling will be competing this Saturday at the Foster HS tournament.

Wrestling v. Brazoswood/Houston Reagan

Varsity Boys – The Longhorn wrestlers hosted Brazoswood HS and Houston Reagan HS last night at the Ranch. Facing Brazoswood first, the Longhorns came out of the chute with 4 straight victories. After that initial push, the momentum swung back and forth between both teams. The Longhorns were able to secure the victory 42-35 thanks to the fast start. The Longhorns then took on Houston Reagan. Riding the wave of the previous victory, the grapplers cruised to a 54-24 win. The most outstanding wrestlers for the night were Corey Chartier, Alex Aronson, Donell Brager-Hegger, Caleb Martinez and Zach Jackson. The Longhorns will travel to Clear Falls HS on Saturday for the CFHS Arm Bar Tournament.

Varsity Girls – The Longhorn women’s varsity wrestlers took on Houston Reagan last night here at the Ranch. The ladies were not able to overcome the seasoned 6A wrestlers and fell 24-6. The lone win for the Longhorns was provided by Shekina Bonner-Spiller. The Longhorns will travel to Clear Falls HS on Saturday for the CFHS Arm Bar Tournament.

JV Boys – The JV Longhorn wrestlers went toe to toe last night with the Bucs from Brazoswood HS. The JV team steamrolled the Bucs 36-6. The first year wrestlers did a great job showing off what they’ve learned in the last 3 weeks. Those greenhorns were Reese Johnson, Braden Bean and Nathan Hernandez. The other impressive wins were by Ricky Boehck, Zach Edwards and Zyon Savery. The JV’ers will be back in action on Wednesday, December 10th when the Longhorns host Waller HS.

Wrestling – Katy Tompkins Dual Meet Results

Varsity – The varsity Longhorn wrestlers took on the Falcons of Katy Tompkins HS last night. The Longhorns managed to come away with a win after veteran senior wrestlers pinned for wins in the last four matches of the night to pull away with a 48-36 victory. Seniors dominating the Falcons were Hunter Jessup, Corey Chartier, Nick Ramirez, Donell Brager-Hegger and Caleb Martinez. Winning for the girls varsity was Diana Luong. The Longhorn varsity will return to action on Thursday, December 4th when they host Brazoswood and Houston Reagan.

JV – The Longhorn JV wrestlers traveled to Katy Tompkins HS last night for a dual meet. The Longhorns came away with a tie. Winning their matches were Cameron Fehres, Jordie Kendall and Dante Giordano. Also winning were freshmen Nick Jackson and Braden Bean who pinned their opponents in the first round of the first matches of their careers. The Longhorn JV will be in action this Saturday here at the Ranch in the Longhorn JV Open Tournament. Wrestling starts at 8:30am. Start your Longhorn Saturday off right by watching your GR Grapplers in action before heading to the Berry Center!!!

JV Wrestling – Mayde Creek Quad

The Longhorn JV wrestlers started their season last night by traveling to Mayde Creek HS for a quad. Besides the hosts, the Longhorns also took on Cy Fair, Cy Springs and Morton Ranch. The JV performed well by winning 3 of 4 duals. Going undefeated for the night were Dante Giordano, Hunter Rubio, Ricky Boehck, Trenton Harrell and Zyon Savery. The Longhorn JV will be in action next Wednesday at Katy Tompkins HS.

Parent Meeting – The wrestling parent meeting will take place on Monday, November 3 at 6:30pm. It will take place in the LGI. New and veteran parents are highly encouraged to be present as there will be a lot of new and very important information provided. Please plan to attend!

Wrestling Team Tryouts – Tryouts for the Longhorn Wrestling team will start on Monday, November 10 from 4:00-6:00pm. If you are interested, you must go by and see Coach Kirby in room 1328 to get on the try-out roster. You must also have a physical on file with Doc Hale.

Wrestling Managers Needed!

The wrestling team is looking for male and female managers. Duties would include filming matches, scorekeeping, helping with equipment and assisting during practice. Managers would travel with the teams to all of their events. If you are interested, please stop by and see Coach Kirby in room 1328 or email him at jkirby@lcisd.org.
