The boys’ Cross Country team qualified for the state meet this Saturday by placing 3rd at regionals. The team was lead by Alec Waldschmidt placing 3rd with a school record of 16:02. Following closely behind was Julian Marrufo at 15th, Jacob Triesch at 16th, Jacob Nava at 20th, Tyler Wandling at 22nd, Wilson Hinz at 50th and Hunter Breeze at 69th.

The girls’ Varsity cross country season came to an end this past weekend as they competed at the 2014 Region III Cross Country Championships in Humble. The ladies placed 11th out of 24 teams, placing 3 spots better than the 2013 season, which is the best overall place the team has had since GRHS opened its doors. The Longhorns had the best placement of District 24-5A with Lamar placing 18th, and Calhoun placing 16th. Out of 172 competitors, freshman Theresa McComisky ran in veteran fashion placing 21st, running a 2nd best season and overall time of 19:47. Junior Alexis Aikens blazed to another personal and season best as well placing 39th, and junior Parker McCarley finished 65th and made major moves this season running a personal best time of 21:23. Senior Elizabeth Hinz finished her senior season also running a personal best time of 21:26 and placing 67th overall, and to round out the team score, freshman Jasmine Frechel also ran a personal best time of 22:00 and placed 87th. Sydney Heikkila and Grayson Thomas finished at 89th and 98th place, respectively. This closes another record setting season for the Lady Longhorns XC team, and none of this would have been possible without the determination and hard work of each individual member of the team. As always, we would like to thank the students, faculty/staff and parents for their continuous support throughout the season.
