JV Track and Field – District Meet Results

JV Girls’ Track – The JV girls’ track team finished their season with a runner-up finish at the District 23-4A track meet on Monday night at Brazosport. The girls were led by the outstanding performances of Kayla Jenkins, Chinwe Eke, Tierra Gardiner, and Amber Willis.

JV Boys’ Track – Last night the JV boys claimed the District Championship in Angleton. First place finishes for the night were Kerin Martin in high jump, Jay Clark in long jump, Nathan Grayson in pole vault, Jacob Nava in the 800 meters, Jaron McVea in the 110 hurdles, and Ben Willis in the 400 meters. This was a perfect conclusion to a great year for the JV boys’ track team!

Girls’ Track and Field – Texas Relays Results

Members of the girls’ varsity track team competed at the 86th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this past weekend. The girls competed amongst a field of the best track and field athletes across the nation from California to Florida. Deandria Batsiste, Chigozie Ogbonna, Chidube Ogbonna and Lisa Egege ran a season best of 1:44 in the girls’ 4×200 meter relay and finished 44th out of 58 teams. Later in the day, Lily Egege, Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles and Deandria Batsiste ran a season best in the girls’ 4×400 relay and broke a new school record of 4:01.90 running 4:01.80. They finished 31st out of 78 teams. GRHS girls also qualified a 4×100 relay that did well. Great job to the ladies that represented our school!

Girls’ Track and Field – Lady Ranger Relays

The Lady Horns JV girls’ track team competed in the Lady Ranger Relays on Thursday. Jazmyn Tilford brought home gold in the 400-meter dash, and Serena Rios finished second in both the 100 and 300 hurdles to pace the Lady Horns’ effort. Next up for the Lady Horns is the District Meet on Monday, April 7 in Brazosport.

Track and Field – Klein Relay Results

The Varsity girls competed at Klein relays this weekend. Lisa Egege placed 6th overall in the 100 meters. Chigozie Ogbonna placed 5th overall in the 400 meters. The 4×400 Relay placed 5th setting a season best time. The 4×100 Shuttle Hurdle Relay competed for the first time in school history and placed 5th overall with Abisola Anifowoshe, Alexis White, Serena Rios and Madison Spaulding. The Distance Medley Relay placed 4th, running a season best time with Alexis Aikens, Lily Egege, Linda Etufugh and Grayson Thomas.

The boys’ track and field team competed at the 44th annual Klein Relays this past Saturday. The boys set several new school records. Chandler Heikkila brought home the gold medal in the 3200 meters setting a new school record in the process. Tylen Guidry also brought home the gold medal in the Triple Jump with a new school record as well. Jordan Janer brought home the silver medal in the Mile (1600 meters) with a new school record, and Chandler Heikkila finished 5th beating the old school record by 1 second. Treyvon Wyche finished 6th while setting a new school record.

The boys will divide their team this weekend as they travel to compete in the Texas Relays on the campus of University of Texas and the Crosby Relays.

Spring Break Results – Girls’ Track and Field

Varsity – The Varsity girls placed 11th out of 20+ teams at the Clear Creek Max Blansit Relays the Friday before spring break. Point contributions came from the following:

4×200 placed 5th-Geordan Yelder, Chigozie Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege.

4×400 placed 5th-Kandice Miles, Chigozie Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Geordan Yelder.

Ellie Gonzales placed 2nd overall in the girls Pole Vault.

The Varsity girls also competed at the Pearland Dawson Relays over the break. Senior Ellie Gonzales placed 6th out of 25 competitors in the pole vault, and freshmen Alexis White placed 5th out of 29 competitors in the girls’ triple jump with a season best jump of 35 feet, 2 inches.

JV Girls’ Track and Field – Falcon Relays Results

The JV girls’ track team scored 170 points in winning the Foster Falcon relays on Thursday night. Once again, the Lady Horns swept all the relay races and had a strong showing by Payton Krause and Monique Jones in the mile to close out the night. The Lady Horns will next compete here at the Ranch in the Longhorn Relays on Thursday, March 20.

Freshman Alexis Thomas and senior Ellie Gonzales started off the meet with breaking school records in the girls high jump and girls pole vault.
