JV Girls’ Track and Field – Foster Falcon Relays Results

The Longhorn JV girls competed in the Foster Falcon relays and placed second overall by 6 points. Notable point scorers were Alexis Woods in the long and triple jump placing 1st, Victoria Tennon placing 1st and 2nd in the girls 400 meter run and high jump, and the girls 4×400 relay placed 1st overall with Ezinne Eke, Mya Brown, Kenia Washington and Christasia Lee.

Girls’ Track and Field – Oakridge Invitational Results

xctrackThe girls’ Varsity track team competed at the Conroe Oakridge War Eagle Invite this past Saturday and earned an overall team finish of 2nd place. Leading off the scoring in field events was Caitlin Tran vaulting to a season and personal best of 9 feet and placing 3rd overall in girls’ pole vault. In high jump, Samantha Chartier placed 3rd and leaped to 5 feet tying her personal best and school record she set last year in 2014. Clair Campbell placed 6th overall and set a personal best in high jump as well leaping to 4 feet 8 inches. In long jump, Geordann Yelder placed 4th jumping a personal and season best of 16 feet 11 inches. Lisa Egege placed 4th in the girls’ triple jump with a jump of 34 feet 9 inches. Leading off into the running events, the shuttle hurdle relay placed 2nd with Brianna Franklin, Abisola Anifowoshe, Alexis Thomas and Dominique Jean Batiste. The sprint medley relay placed 2nd with Kandice Miles, Chigozie Ogbonna, Lily Egege and Linda Etufugh. The girls’ distance medley placed 3rd with Parker McCarley, Alexis Aikens, Destiny Rutherford and Theresa McComiskey. Theresa McComisky also represented distance well in the girls’3200 meters placing 3rd overall. The girls’ 4×100 relay placed 3rd overall andbroke the school record set in 2012. Jazmyne Tiflord Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege contributed to that record-breaking time. Lily Egege placed 6th in the girls’ 800 running it for the first time ever. The girls’ 4×200 meter relay placed 1st overall with Destiny Rutherford, Kandice Miles, Chidube Ogbonna and Geordann Yelder. In the girls’ 400 meter run, Chigozie Ogbonna ran a season best and placed 2nd and Jazmyne Tilford Rutherford placed 4th overall. Lisa Egege killed the 200-meter competition placing 1st overall with Geordan Yelder placing 3rd overall. The top 5 state-ranked girls’ 4×400 meter relay won in true fashion with Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Lisa Egege, Geordann Yelder and Chigozie Ogbonna.

Girls’ Track and Field – Bubba Fife Relay Results

The varsity girls’ track team competed at Bubba Fife Relays and placed 7th overall out of 18 teams, scoring 46 points. Last year they placed 16th out of 19 teams, which shows the significant growth in the program. Starting off in the field events, point contributions were made by sophomore Lisa Egege placing 5th in girls’ triple jump with a personal best of 35 feet. Junior Silhouette Uzoka placed 3rd in the girls shot put with a throw of 32 feet. Leading off the running events was the girls 4×100 relay placing 6th overall with Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Geordann Yelder. The girls nearly missed the school record by 3 tenths of a second running 49.85. Sophomore Lisa Egege beat the girls’ 100-meter school record running an 11.87. The original record of 12.02 was previously set by Mikayala Everett in 2012. The girls also placed 4th in the girls 4×200 meter relay and also broke the school record previously set last year in 2014 by Geordann Yelder, Destiny Rutherford, Chidube Ogbonna and Lisa Egege. Geordann Yelder, Chigozie Ogbonna, Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford and Lisa Egege ran an amazing relay beating that time from 2014. To close the meet with a bang, the girls’ 4x400relay ran the second best time in the school’s history and won with a time of3:53.84 to beat the second place team by a whole 5 seconds. Jazmyne Tilford-Rutherford, Lisa Egege, Kandice Miles and Chigozie Ogbonna set the tone of the meet by also breaking the Bubba Fife 11 year old meet record of 3:54.74 set by Fort Bend Hightower in 2004. The girls will compete at the Conroe Oak RidgeInvite this Saturday. Way to start the season off right, ladies!!!

Winter and Spring Sports Tryouts

Girls’ Track & Field – All girls interested in trying out for the 2015 track and field season must see head girls’ Coach A. Dutch or Coach Gloff by Tuesday, November 25th. Practice starts Monday, December 1st. Requirements are to have an athletic physical packet on file, as well as be in good standing with academics and discipline in order to try out.

Boys’ Track & Field – All boys interested in trying out for the 2015 track and field season must see head boys’ Coach T. Dutch or Coach Fairhurst by Tuesday, November 25th. Practice starts Monday, December 1st. Requirements are to have an athletic physical packet on file, as well as be in good standing with academics and discipline in order to try out.

Boys’ Soccer – The George Ranch boys’ soccer team will be having open tryouts on Monday, December 1st through Wednesday, December 3rd after school from 4:00-5:30pm. Anyone interested in trying out for the 2014-2015 season will need to sign up with Coach Torres in Room 2319 and have an athletic physical on file for the 2014-2015 school year.

Girls’ Soccer – If you are interested in being a part of the girls soccer program, tryouts will be held from 4:00-5:30pm on December 1st- December 3rd. If you are interested, please see Coach Pratt in room 1610 for more information. Remember that you must have a current completed LCISD Athletic Physical on file to tryout!

Tennis – If anyone is interested in playing tennis this spring, please come see Coach Guidry in room 2412.

Girls Track – State Championships

Congratulations to the varsity girls track team as they concluded their season at the UIL 4A Track and Field State Championships. The quartet of Destiny Rutherford, Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles and Lisa Egege placed 6th overall in the girls’ 4×400 relay. They all ran their second fastest time of the season, which was a 3:55. It was an amazing season, and we thank you all for your continuous support through the state meet.

2014 Sports Banquet

The 2014 Winter and Spring Sports Banquet honoring Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling, and Student Athletic Trainers will be on Wednesday, May 14th @ 6:30pm. We will all meet in the GRHS Auditorium prior to breaking off into our specific sports. Hope to see you all there!

Girls Track and Field – Region Meet

Congratulations to the girls’ track and field team on their great performances in the Region III-4A Track and field championships in Hunstville. The girls placed 10th out of 28 teams overall, and these individuals contributed to point totals:

Senior Ellie Gonzales finished her amazing season and high school career by placing 6th with a vault of 10’6 in girls’ pole vault.

Otito Omeludike leaped to an amazing school record with a distance of 37 feet 7 inches in the girls’ triple jump. This earned her a 5th place finish overall in the competition.

Freshman Lisa Egege set a season best time and earned a 6th place finish in the girls’ 100 meters. The girls’ 4×200 relay had an impressive weekend with breaking the school record and earning a 6th place overall finish in the event even though they were coming into finals in the last spot. The members – Geordan Yelder, Chidube Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Lisa Egege – did an excellent job.

Rounding out the day was the girls’ 4×400 relay with Destiny Rutherford, Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles, Lisa Egege and alternate Lily Egege earning the first trip to State in this event. The girls were crowned the Region III-4A champions in the 4×400 and shattered the school record by 9 seconds!

The girls’ track and field has had an extraordinary season, and we are incredibly excited about competing at State next week.

2014 Special Olympics – Results

The Special Olympics were held at Traylor Stadium this past weekend. Evan Morris finished as the Pent Athlete and was recognized as the overall District Champion winning 1st place in the following events: 100m, 400m, Running Long Jump, High jump, the 4×100 relays, and 2nd place finish in the Shotput. Peyton McKeithen finished as the Female Champ in the 200m and 1st in the 4×100 relays. Jazzmine Brito earned two gold medals in softball and the 100m dash and a bronze medal in the 400m relay. David Hogaboom earned two gold medals in the 100m run and the softball throw.

Girls’ Track and Field – District Meet Results

Congratulations to the girls’ Varsity track and field team on its 2014 23-4A District Championship title!

Day 1 Ellie Gonzales broke her own school record and solidified her district Champion title in the girls’ pole vault with a vault of 11’1″. Freshman Chioma Osikpa finished 2nd with 8’6″ and freshman Caitlan Tran finished 5th overall.

In the girls’ shot put, junior Timi Forun added to point totals by placing 5th with her personal best throw.

In the girls’ triple jump, senior Otito Omeludike placed 2nd and tied her own school record with a leap of 36’10”. Freshman Alexis White placed 5th and sophomore LeAndra Houston placed 6th overall.

Sophomore Samantha Chartier tied the school record in the girls’ high jump with a 5’0 jump, which earned her a 3rd place finish. Junior DeAndria Batiste placed 4th and freshman Alexis Thomas placed 5th.

Senior Otito Omeludike broke her own school record in the girls’ long jump and came out on top as the district champion in this event.

Rounding out day one and the girls’ 3200 run was senior Mariana Castaneda with her 5th place finish and junior Elizabeth Hinz with a 6th place overall finish.

Day two of finals the girls were ahead with 58 points and did not look back from there.

Sophomore Linda Etufugh placed 3rd in the girls’ 800 with Alexis Aikens’ 6th place finish to add on.

Freshman Alexis White became a district champion in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles with freshman Abisola Ainfowoshe rounding that event with a 3rd place finish.

Freshman Lisa Egege finished 3rd in the girls 100 meter dash and also ran an excellent anchor leg on the District Champion girls’ 4×200 meter relay. Geordan Yelder, Chidube Ogbonna and Destiny Rutherford were members of this winning relay as well.

Chigozie Ogbonna, Kandice Miles and Lily Egege placed 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the girls’ 400 which allowed the Longhorns to start pulling away.

Lisa Egege placed 2nd in the girls’ 200 meters, freshman Chidube Ogbonna finshed 3rd, and DeAndria Batiste finished 5th rounding out the girls’ 200 meters.

Sophomore Alexis Aikens punched her ticket to regionals with her 2nd place finish in the girls’ mile.

The girls sealed the meet with an overall 1st place finish in the girls’ 4×400 relay with Lily Egege, Chigozie Ogbonna, Destiny Rutherford and Kandice Miles.

Again congratulations, girls! You all performed extremely well!
