Boys’ Basketball v. Katy Tompkins

Basketball

Varsity – The boys’ Varsity basketball team defeated Katy Tompkins 69-63 in overtime of a thrilling game. After trailing 25-11 after the first quarter, the team fought back to get back in the game. The team was led by Lennox Jones who scored 25 points, including 22 in the 2nd half. Evan Murray and DJ Thomas also had great games dominating inside. This brings the teams record to 4-0.

Sophomore – The Sophomore basketball team played a hard fought game against Katy-Tompkins where the Longhorns came up short 46 to 62. The leading scorers were Jordan Johnson with 13 points and Odera Ikwuezma with 13 points.

Freshman A – The Freshman A basketball team lost to Tompkins 45-47. Top offensive players were Dj Ray, Ugo Etufugh and LaBarron Nelson. Top defensive players were Dylan Swain, Darius Russaw and Ord Limbrick.

Freshman B – The Freshman B team played a tough game but came up short 58 to 36.

Boys’ Basketball v. Mayde Creek

Basketball

Varsity – The Varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Katy to take on Mayde Creek last Tuesday. The team came up with an exciting 80-77 win on a very balanced attack. Five of our players scored in double digits, and everyone who played scored. Evan Murray led the way with 11 points and 13 rebounds. DJ Thomas was big all night with 15 points and 9 rebounds. The win brings the team to 3-0 on the season. Come out and support the team Tuesday night against Katy Tompkins.

Boys’ Basketball v. Friendswood

Basketball

Varsity – The Varsity boys’ basketball team defeated the Friendswood Mustangs in a very exciting game by the score of 43-35. The team was led by Lennox Jones all game, including 8 points in the 4th quarter. DJ Thomas and Evan Murray dominated on the inside all night.

JV – The JV boys’ basketball team defeated the Friendswood Mustangs by a score of 41-40 on a last second steal and score by Mustapha Campbell. Chuckwuma Ogbonna led the team with great defense all night.

Sophomore – The Sophomore team lost a hard fought game to the Friendswood Mustangs by a score of 51-49. The team was led by Sunny Ozoh and Odera Ikwuezuema with great hustle and scoring all night.

Freshman A – George Ranch lost to Friendswood 48-57 yesterday. Top players on offensive were Matthew Burger, Ugo Etufugh, and Keynan McGrew. Top players on defense were Dylan Swain, Darius Russaw, and Grant Applebaum.

Freshman B – The Freshman B team defeated the Friendswood Mustangs 34-29. The team was led by Gift Owhonda, Morgan Obi and Noah Holley.

Boys’ Basketball Tryouts

Boys’ Basketball Tryouts – Tryouts for freshmen will take place Wednesday, October 29th and Thursday, October 30th from 7-8am.

Tryouts for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be the same days from 6-7pm.

Players who make the 1st cut will be invited to practice on Friday.

 

**UPDATE 11/3: Tryouts for Freshmen participating in football will take place Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th from 7-8 AM. Sophomore and Junior football players not playing on Varsity will tryout Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th from 4-5 PM. ​

Moonlight Madness Pep Rally

Basketball

Join us on Wednesday, November 12, for the First Annual Moonlight Madness Pep Rally to celebrate the official beginning of basketball season. Doors will open at 6:15pm @ The GRHS Competition Gym with the event itself beginning at 7:00pm. There will be various contests performed throughout the evening including a three-point contest, a prize raffle every 10 minutes, as well as performances from other George Ranch athletes and student organizations. The three-point contest will include both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams squaring off in a heated battle to see who reigns supreme from behind the arc. Last but not least, there will be a dunk contest to see who can throw down their best slam. The first 20 students will receive a free Moonlight Madness T- shirt at the Door!

Student tickets go on sale for $1 on Friday, October 24. See your favorite girls’ or boys’ basketball team member to purchase them, and tickets will also be sold during lunches. (If you don’t buy tickets at school, the price is $2 at the door for HS students; $3 for adults. ALL ELEMENTARY AND JR. HIGH STUDENTS GET IN FREE!)

Boys’ Basketball Fundraiser – Fish Fry Style!

Parents,

Next Saturday, October 25th, the Boys Basketball program will have a Fish Fry fundraiser at the Kids R Kids/Greatwood across from Buc-ee’s on Crabb River Rd from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

10 tickets were distributed to each player to presale, however, plates will be sold onsite for $10 (including sides and a dessert).

Please ask your neighbors, friends, and family for their support!

2014 Sports Banquet

The 2014 Winter and Spring Sports Banquet honoring Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Wrestling, and Student Athletic Trainers will be on Wednesday, May 14th @ 6:30pm. We will all meet in the GRHS Auditorium prior to breaking off into our specific sports. Hope to see you all there!

Boys’ Basketball v. Texas City (Playoffs)

Basketball

The Longhorns fell to Texas City in the first round of playoffs by a score of 48-67. The team came out strong in the 1st half, but fell behind early in the 2nd and couldn’t get back over the hump. The team was led by Chris Oliver‘s great ball handling and Lennox Jones‘ great energy. Thanks to all of the seniors for 4 great years in the program.
